BROWN, Anna Maria

July 12, 1938 — November 11, 2024

Anna Maria Brown passed away suddenly at 86 years of age on November 11, 2024, in Lake Country Lodge Retirement and Care Community in Lake Country, BC.

Anna was born on July 12, 1938 in Palanka, Yugoslavia to the late Michael and Katherine (née Supritz) Rehlinger. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Brown and son Steve Brown. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Dennis, in September 2024. She was also predeceased by her sister Katie Byland in 2015 and her cousin Bibiana (née Rehlinger) La Hay in 2023. Anna is survived by her niece Anita (née Byland) Thorsen and her nephew John Byland. She is also survived by her cousins Anthony and Mary Ann Rehlinger.

Anna was orphaned at a young age during the Second World War in Europe. She and her sister Katie came to Canada in 1949 and lived with their Uncle Toni and Aunt Anna Rehlinger and later on with their Aunt Maria Supritz until each of them married.

Anna met her future husband, Dennis, while working at a restaurant in Kelowna, BC. They settled and built their house in the Rutland area. Anna was a wonderful mother to Kathy and Steve, she was always very supportive. She was an intelligent woman and a very creative homemaker. Kathy and Steve miss their parents terribly.

The family would like to thank Dr. America Uribe Lima for taking care of Anna during her last few years. They also greatly appreciate the wonderful care and compassion given to Anna by the nurses and care aides at the Lake Country Lodge.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, and the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH Foundation).

A private graveside service will see Anna laid to rest at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
