We Remember
BROWN, Frances Dorothy
December 11, 1930 — September 4, 2024
With much sadness, we announce the passing of Frances Dorothy Brown, late of Coldstream, BC.
Frances was born in Vancouver, BC, at the beginning of the Great Depression. She attended John Oliver High School and the Victoria Normal School for teacher training. Her first position was a one-room, seven-grade classroom in Ucluelet on Vancouver Island. It was there she met her future husband Mitch who taught across the bay in Tofino. Frances and Mitch married in 1951 in Vancouver and later moved to Vernon, where Mitch taught for many years. They settled in Coldstream where Frances tended her family and her vast gardens, along with all manner of livestock and fowl. In between, she was an accomplished needlewoman, homemaker, and baker. Her family and friends brought her much joy. In later years her health declined, and she was no longer able to pursue her many interests. Her final years were spent at the Heron Grove Complex in Vernon.
Frances was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Mitch, and her son Colin. She is survived by her daughters Peg (Tony) and Wenonah (Alan), granddaughters Zoe and Alex (Gerald), and one great-grandson.
Our family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbours for their kindness over the years. We especially thank the staff of Heron Grove, Cottage 2, for their care and support.
