We Remember

BURANT, Courtney Farrah

December 4, 1976 — April 19, 2024

With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to Courtney Burant, at the age of 47, she passed away at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, BC, on April 19, 2024. She was surrounded by her family and love.

Courtney, a true hockey aficionado and an unwavering supporter of her home town team, the Edmonton Oilers. From her earliest days, Courtney attended and watched countless games by her dad’s side, and later she passed on the tradition to her son, Josh, sharing the game’s spirit in the same way. But, the Oilers weren’t her only obsession. With her unparalleled enthusiasm, she was a true fan girl of the Backstreet Boys. She traversed both the USA and Canada in pursuit of her beloved Backstreet Boys, leaving a trail of ticket stubs and cherished memories wherever she roamed.

Whether it was the joy of Christmas that she celebrated year-round with festive music; the delights of shopping; or comforting moments in the kitchen where she whipped up delectable treats, like her famous peanut butter and chocolate chip cookies, Courtney brought warmth and joy to those she shared these moments with. Probably because whatever she was doing, it was who she was with that really mattered to her. Her love for her family knew no bounds, as she poured her heart into being a devoted mother and a treasured big sister, always cherishing the time spent with her family. She had plenty of love to share, it spilled beyond her family; she truly loved spending time with her co-workers and her wonderful friends. In fact, her love spilled even beyond people; her home was a haven of greenery, reflecting her love for flowers and plants, a symbol of her nurturing spirit.

In Courtney’s passing, we mourn the loss of a dear friend, a loving mother, and a dear member of our community. May her memory continue to inspire us, just as her presence brightened our lives.

Courtney is survived by her children, Joshua Brown and Carter Vasko; her parents, Maureen & Douglas Burant; and her siblings, Travis Burant and Kyleigh Burant. She will also be missed by Jeani & Gavin Brown, who were a second family to her; and by her partner, Cole Vasko. She is also survived by Ken Burant; Randy & Carol; Sandra & Larry; Gail & Howie; Terry & Rod; as well as by Lois & Wayne; Colleen; Heather & Nick; Faye & Mike; Brad & Sheryl; Lynne. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Ambrose & Rose Burant, and Robert & Elaine Brogden; as well as by her uncle Donny Powell, aunt Debra Coleman, uncle Greg Brogden, and step-aunt Linda Burant; her great-uncle, Lenord Burant; and Debra Chute, her mother-in-law.

  • Lois Steven says:

My first memory of Courtney was of a petite very blond toddler who asked me if I wanted a drink of water. I asked her if she wanted a drink of water. Yes, she said. Courtney was a beautiful little toddler and quite shy.❤️

  • Norm & Dale Mikkelson says:

We are so sorry to hear of your loss our thoughts and condolences go out to the family.

  • Charlotte Blackwell (Chieduch) says:

I went to Facebook today to check on how Courtney was doing. I don’t go online often. I am absolutely heartbroken. Courtney was one of the first friends I remember growing up on our block. She was the most beautiful person inside and out . My mom recently passed, and I hope they can enjoy being silly together once in awhile. Much love to all that were touched by her beautiful soul.
