We Remember
CARLYLE, Dr. William Wallace
June 16, 1963 — June 16, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Carlyle on June 16, 2026, at the age of 63. Bill was suffering from Huntington’s Disease and with life becoming more difficult, he chose to end his days with the assistance of MAiD. Bill has handled his recent surprising diagnosis of this genetic disease with grace and reflection. His son, Sean, was also struggling with Huntington’s Disease, and together they found solace and comfort in passing together. With their family by their side, they went peacefully and comfortably.
Bill is survived by his former wife and best friend, Margot, of 47 years, their daughter Paige (Jeff), grandson Owen, brother John (Kathryn) and their children, and father Tom (Fran). He is predeceased by his mother Jean.
Bill was born in 1963 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he enjoyed his summers at West Hawk Lake and Minaki Lake. He loved to play hockey, soccer, and coach soccer as a young man. He earned his degree in Medicine at the University of Manitoba where he majored in Geriatric Psychiatry. Bill dedicated his working life to the elderly who suffered from Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
After finishing his degree, Bill and his family moved to Port Coquitlam, BC for 1 ½ years and then settled in beautiful Kelowna, BC. He loved his family dearly and spent many weekends on the sidelines of a soccer field, on the edge of a swimming pool or at a dance recital. Bill loved to read, walk and bike ride. When he retired, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, thoroughly enjoying delivering food and chatting to those in need and his many elderly clients.
Bill’s final gift to the medical field was organ donation in order to help others continue their lives more comfortably.
We would like to thank the MAiD providers who made this process a peaceful ending, to the Transplant Team of Jenna and Karly whose kindness in this process was wonderful and to his Doctor, Dr. C. Fruhstorfer, who’s continuous care and attention was so appreciated.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Society, Meals on Wheels, or the Huntington’s Disease Society.

I am terribly sorry for the suffering & loss your family has been going through. Our family was deeply impacted by Dr. Carlyle’s life. His kind, compassionate, demeanor & masterful ability to navigate dementia’s difficult moments was nothing short of stunning to behold. Imagine seeing a cornered badger relax, roll over and purr like a happy kitty :). Also, Dr. Carlyle not only treated the patient but also the family by helping us understand the changes the disease caused. We will always be grateful for the incredibly dedicated and dignified care Dr. Carlyle gave our family and others. Our prayers are with your family. Dana Howe
I had the pleasure of working with Bill on CBDU at Brookhaven for many years. His gentle spirit and kind , knowledgable approach was always evident. As the care coordinator of this unit, I know he always took the necessary time to gently share the realities of those that came into his care. His expertise truly made a difference in the lives of his patients. My sincere condolences to his family. I’m happy he was able to leave with the dignity he deserved.
