We Remember

Carroll, Harriet Eilene, nee Houghton

On October 15,2012, at the age of 93, Harriet passed peacefully with family at her side.  She has gone on her final journey to be with her late husband Les.  She is survived by daughter Faye Fraser (John) of Calgary AB; two sons Cameron Carroll (Beverly) of Kelowna, BC, Rick Carroll (Liane) of Calgary, AB; four Grandchildren, Heather Danson, Jillian Ortega (Virgilio), Jeff Carroll (Tamara) and Lauren Carroll; four great grandchildren, Lucas and Sofia Ortega, Jaxson and LoganCarroll.

Harriet was born In Elbow, SK and spent all her young years on the family farm.  She was predeceased by two brothers, William and Ralph Houghton and three sisters: Marion, Florence and Dorothy.  She was very much loved by many nieces, nephews and special cousins Garry and Deanie Miniellly.

Harriet and Les were married in 1943.  Harriet followed Les to many Canadian Air Force postings across Canada and also four years in Washington D.C.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother to all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She loved curling and golf.  Many happy memories revolved around fun camping trips with children and grandchildren.  Evenings of cards with family was one of her favourite past times.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ed Funk, a very supportive and special caring friend, who added greatly to her life’s enjoyment while at the Dorchester and to the many people in her life.  Also to Dr. W. Wickstrom for her professional and kind care over many years.  The Dorchester assisted living facility, for providing her with five happy years.  Her last, somewhat difficult months, were spent at Mountain View Village – their care and concern for Harriet and family was exceptional.  Don and Michaela Brayton, friends who passed many hours playing cards with her and giving her special love.  A Celebration of Harriet’s Life will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Canada – Mountainview Village, 3070 Burtch Road, Kelowna, BC V1W 5G2.
