We Remember

CHAPMAN, Kenneth Earl

August 3, 1932 — September 4, 2026

Ken Chapman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away on September 4, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on August 3, 1932, in Meota, Saskatchewan, Ken was the eldest of two children born to Bill and Nellie Chapman. He is survived by his children, Greg (Deb), Blair (Patty), Anna (Dave), and Colleen; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many relatives and friends whose lives he touched. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Alan, and his beloved wife, Barb.

Ken’s early years in Saskatchewan were shaped by the many friendships and family connections he shared with cousins and friends who hunted, played ball and hockey together. When he met Barbie, the love of his life, he knew she was the one. Their love story spanned more than seven decades, including 71 wonderful years of marriage before Barb’s passing in May 2025.

An avid hunter, Ken spent countless days exploring the plains, forests, and mountains of Western Canada. His family grew up eating duck, goose, deer, elk, sheep, moose, fish, and whatever else he brought home from his adventures, with one exception: rattlesnake was where the family drew the line. Ken was especially proud of his hunting accomplishments and holds the record for harvesting one of British Columbia’s largest black bears. He had a never ending stream of hunting stories, and even in later years, could still out-hike people half his age.

Ken had his favourite fishing holes and also made many trips in search of big Chinook Salmon and Halibut to Alaska and northern British Columbia. Whether hunting or fishing, he loved being outdoors and sharing those experiences with family and friends.

A gifted craftsman, Ken could fix almost anything. Later in life, he discovered a passion for wood carving and, alongside Barb, earned several awards and accolades for their work. He also enjoyed gardening and was a dedicated cribbage player who skunked many opponents over the years while enjoying regular games with friends and family. Whether around the crib board or the pool table, he was always up for a little friendly competition.

Ken will be remembered for his strength, resourcefulness, sense of humour, and deep love for his family. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.

A small graveside service will take place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens, 2850 Dry Valley Road, Kelowna, BC. A celebration of Ken’s life will be held in Fort Pitt, Saskatchewan, in 2027.
