We Remember
CHEROT, Rene Michael Charles “Ren”
March 26, 1976 — December 23, 2025
The family of Rene “Ren” Cherot is deeply saddened to announce his passing on December 23, 2025, at his home, due to a medical incident that is unknown at this time. Ren was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend – whose loss is felt profoundly by all who knew him.
Ren was born in Kelowna, BC, and raised in Vancouver, BC, and Birch Bay, WA, returning to Kelowna at the age of 45, where he continued to build a meaningful and full life. Intelligent, articulate, and insightful, Ren was known for being exceptionally well-spoken—many would say it was nearly impossible to win an argument against him. He was a wealth of knowledge on countless topics, and conversations with him were always deep, insightful, and thought-provoking. He approached every aspect of his life with determination, creativity, and passion, always making the most of anything he did.
Ren cared deeply for his family and friends, treasuring every moment spent with them. The depth of love he carried for others was vast and unwavering. Though he had been through much in his life, Ren remained kind, compassionate, and walked through the world with grace.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Rebecca; his children, Colin and Kirstian; his mother, Sandie; his stepfather, Bill; and his siblings, Sondra, Noelle, and Darcy. He will also be remembered fondly by many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Emile; his aunt, Donna; cousin, Dana; and best friend, Adam.
Ren lived life with strength, warmth, and humour. Confident and masculine, yet wonderfully silly and kind-hearted, he possessed a natural ability to bring laughter, comfort, and reassurance to those around him. He was a steadfast friend, deeply loyal, and always guided by strong morals, values, and compassion.
Talented in many areas, Ren had a lifelong passion for martial arts, especially Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a sport he loved deeply and excelled in. Ren also had a dedication to health and fitness, always striving to be his best self. He was creative and adventurous, and took great pride in building his 1990 Mustang GT entirely self-taught—a reflection of his intelligence, determination, and passion for the things he loved. Professionally, Ren worked as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer and was deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of others. His dedication to job safety was both admirable and respected. Those who knew and loved him could not be prouder of the man he was.
Ren also held a tremendous love for animals, always gentle, attentive, and playful with them, and he carried a quiet tenderness that endeared him to anyone who truly knew him. That caring, playful side of him brought so much joy to those around him. Above all, he loved deeply, lived fully, and will be remembered for his strength of spirit, generous heart, sharp mind, and unforgettable presence.
Memorial donations may be sent to Hope For Paws, in honour of Ren.
