We Remember
CHURCHILL, Frederick Laitefield
November 12, 1942 — December 7, 2022
It is with great sadness, we announce the loss of our father, Frederick “Fred” Laitefield Churchill. He passed away peacefully on December 7, 2022, in Kelowna, British Columbia at the age of 80.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, William “Bill” & Mary Churchill (née Adams); his brother, Winston “Winse” Churchill; and nephew, Todd Chisholm. He is survived by his daughters, Leanne Churchill and Annette Welsh (née Churchill); grandsons, Taylor & Matthew Welsh and Nathan & Dezmond Churchill; the mother of his daughters, Sheila Churchill; and his sisters, Trudy “Olive” (Colin) Chisholm and Lynn Baird (Len Mercer). Also left to mourn are his many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and Alberta.
Born in Buchans, Newfoundland on November 12, 1942, Dad spent the majority of his life in Clarenville, NL. He later moved to Kelowna (2011) to be closer to his daughters and grandsons.
Dad was a welder by trade and liked working with his hands. He loved to be “in da woods” ski-dooing, moose hunting, camping, or simply havin’ a “boil-up”. Pops loved salmon fishing, trouting, and cod-jiggin’. He enjoyed golfing, playing darts, crib, and a scattered game of pool. He also had a passion for classic cars. With his steady hand and wonderful imagination, he was a very good sketch artist as well. In his retirement, he enjoyed helping out around the house – mowing the lawn and “fiddlin’ around” in the garage. He always found something to do and rarely sat idle. He loved his family a great deal and cherished time spent with them. There were always plenty of dogs around him too, whether it be his own or ours. Usually one in Dad’s arms or trailin’ behind him, lookin’ for the extra treats he’d try to sneak to them without us knowing! He always loved having his grandsons and the “woofers” around him.
Our Dad was kind, thoughtful, and considerate. A quiet, gentle soul with a quirky sense of humour. There is a painful void in our hearts, and he is missed so very much.
Rest in peace, Dad. We love and adore you immensely.
-Annette and Leanne
Fred will be remembered individually by family and friends, no formal service will take place.
