COLLINGWOOD, Harold Wilfred “Willy” – UPDATED SERVICE INFO

March 13, 1958 — August 18, 2026

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at noon, at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. 

With extreme sadness, our family announces the unexpected passing of our Harold Collingwood, from a fall causing a brain bleed. Our Harold was a kind, loving, selfless, good person who loved his family unconditionally.

He leaves behind his sisters Cathy Fedorchuk, Jane Fairy and brothers Cyril Collingwood and Tim Collingwood. He is survived by his nieces Randa, Mandy, Candace, Tiffany, Kendra, Courtney; nephews Josh, Darren, Mike, Brian; much-loved great-nieces and nephews; and cousin Jane Atkins.  He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Dorothy and Cyril Collingwood; sisters Gail Collingwood, Judy Parker, and Wendy Collingwood.

Harold was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and moved with his family to Kelowna in 1962. Harold was a hardworking guy right from the age of 5, when he started selling newspapers in downtown Kelowna.  He worked in Kelowna at many jobs, including a Dickie Dee Cart selling ice cream as a young boy. Harold always had a job throughout his younger years. When he was in his late teens, he moved to his birthplace, Edmonton, Alberta and worked for the City Works Department, where he remained for a few years, then came back to Kelowna, where he worked for the City of Kelowna. He then went to work for Sunrype before he was forced to leave because of a bad car accident. After he somewhat recovered from his accident, he worked several jobs.

In 1986, when our Dad passed away, Harold gave up his apartment and moved in with our Mom to look after her. He stayed with her until 2003, when she went into a care home. We are all very grateful to him for his selfless act of caring for our Mom, but that’s who he was.

He loved sports and played many of them, including his favourite football, basketball, soccer and many others. When he couldn’t continue playing sports himself, he volunteered to coach. He loved to watch every sport with friends and did right up until the end. Fishing was another big passion of his.

Harold was always there to help his family and friends. He was so loved by the people who knew him. Harold was the kind of brother we were lucky to have; he genuinely cared so much about every single member of our family and all the friends he had. When he couldn’t continue helping as much as he wanted to because of mobility issues, his friends at Father Delestre’s, his apartment complex, jumped at the chance to return the kindness and helping hand he always gave to them.

Harold, you are going to be missed, and a void will be left in all our lives.

We wish to thank the Nurses, Care Aids and Doctors at KGH Emergency for the care of Harold. A special thank you to the ICU Nurses and Doctors. A very special thank you to Harold’s ICU nurse Juliette – we have had a lot of nurses over the years who were fabulous. We were only in the ICU with Harold for one day before he passed, and the caring way Juliette took care of him and our family was above and beyond, not just as a nurse, but you could tell she was genuinely a good person. Thank you from our hearts, Juliette.

Harold, you will be forever loved and never forgotten. Rest in peace, you big Teddy Bear

    Cathy, Janie, Cyril and Tim
    It is hard to fathom the loss of Harold, this amazingly kind and gentle Man. This came as shock to me as it did for you all. Still hard to comprehend. I have so many memories with Harold. Partying at his apartment, his conversations when my Mom was in the U of A and late night calls from Kelowna, but the list goes on. He will be truly missed and the world got alot smaller and dimmer without this spark of a man on this Earth. I am sorry to you, my Family, and hope that you are able to get the support from each other and Friends to get through this difficult journey. My heartfelt sympathies.

    To the Collingwood Family
    I am so sorry to have heard of Harold’s passing. He was definitely a favourite cousin of mine and we had a ton of late night calls, reminiscing and many visits throughout the years. He was an important part of our Family Legacy.
    He was a great guy and will be missed by all.

    My sincere condolences to the Collingwood family. I met Harold at Martin Elementary many many years ago. Although I haven’t seen him in recent years, he was always a gentle soul. RIP
