We Remember

COOK, Lienne Marie (née Gilbeau)

August 22, 1950 — October 20, 2026

It is with great love and sadness that we announce the loss of Lienne Marie Cook, who passed away peacefully on October 20, 2026, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 76.

Lienne was born in Toronto, Ontario, to the late Leo Thomas Gilbeau and Mary Kathryn Gilbeau (née Stanley). In 1966 she moved to Kelowna, BC, and stayed for the fresh air and the epic landscapes. In her free time she camped and golfed, two pastimes that involved a great deal of optimism about the weather, which was a reasonable gamble in the Okanagan.

Her working life reads like a small, practical map of the city of Kelowna. She worked on a chicken farm, then at RR Reinforcing and Gray Beverage. She worked for the City of Kelowna and for the Kelowna Fire Department at the fire halls, and she finished her career with CUPE BC, the union’s BC division. At home, she kept the books, personally, for her son, her daughter-in-law, and her grandson. It was a way of looking after people she loved, and she did her best to make sure nobody went without.

Lienne was very much about family. She and her husband William raised their children together with love. She was also the person who threw the reunions, who found the room, counted the chairs, and made sure everyone came, including the ones who said they might not. She loved her family and friends dearly. To her nieces and nephews, she was the favourite auntie, a title she held without apparent effort and against considerable competition.

Lienne will be deeply missed by her husband of 49 years, William Cook; her children, Kris (Dean) Ward and Gordie (Holly) Billy; her grandchildren, Bradly, Mathyus, Bailey, Riley, Sammie, and Alex; her great-grandchild, Eli; her siblings, Michelle Olfert, Tim Gilbeau, and Darcy Gilbeau; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her brother, Kevin Gilbeau, and her grandson, Bradly Hawryluk.

We would like to thank Dr. Fields for his kindness and devotion towards Lienne, as well as the Kelowna Hospice House Southside that took care of our mom. Any donations or flowers can be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association (COAH). ❤️

A Memorial Reception to honour our beloved Lienne will be held on Friday, December 11, 2026, at 10:00 am (PCT), in the Family Centre at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.
