We Remember

COOPER, Martin Carey

July 22, 1955 — February 6, 2021

Born on July 22, 1955 in Calgary, AB, Martin Cooper sadly passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 65. He was a good dude who left us way too soon.

Martin was a dreamer and often invented new ideas to make the world a better place. He had a generous heart and that those who knew him, knew they could rely on him. He was always willing to help out where he could.

He had an unwavering love for animals, plants, and the earth. Martin loved his dogs, they were truly his best friends. He would often refer to them as “Land Sharks”. One time, this phrase was a cause of concern for his doctor, for the doctor had no idea what he was talking about.

Martin had a wonderful sense of humour, even up to the very end he continued to show his inner youthfulness and positive take on life. Even so, the last few years of his life were tough as his health declined. Thank you to Carrie, Daph, and Mel for being by his side during his final days. And a special thank-you to Carrie for her unwavering love for her father and providing the opportunity for Martin to experience a comfortable end of life.

His spirit is carried on by his children Carrie Lynn Cooper, Melonie Roth, and Daphane Szabo; his grandchildren Clayton, Aaliyah, Raine, Neveah, Jamie, Shayodi, Jade, Dilyan, Charlie, and Aubrey; his sister Mary Gerritsen (née Cooper); and of course the “Land Sharks”: Buddy, Taz, Skippie, and Dodger.

A private family service will be held for Martin. For those who are unable to join due to Covid-19 restrictions, please raise a cold one or take a walk amongst the trees for a farewell to this one-of-a-kind.
