We Remember

COPE, Cyril Anthony “Tony”

December 18, 1928 — June 12, 2021

After a long and debilitating battle with dementia, Tony Cope passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021.  He was predeceased by his wife Theresa in 2003.

Tony is survived by his 3 daughters: Darlene Patton (Ian), Marlene Dunn (Mike), and Debra Powell (Dan). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Born December 18, 1928 in Bedfordshire England, Tony came to Canada, on his own, immediately following WWII and built a life for himself in Vernon, BC.  Tony excelled mechanically and went on to a long and distinguished career as a machinist and heavy-duty mechanic.  He apprenticed as an Automotive Machinist at  MacKenzie White & Dunsmir in Vernon, and later he received certification as a heavy duty mechanic while at J. S. Galbraith & Sons  in Vernon.  Tony went on to management positions for various equipment dealers and large construction companies.

Tony had a great sense of humour (a little off colour at times), and he loved to play crib – he was always up for a game or two. He was an avid gardener who could grow pretty much anything. The home that he built in Lavington, BC after his retirement had extensive gardens and a green house.  Tony could also fix pretty much anything and his neighbors regularly brought him things to fix.  He was a good neighbor who was always ready to lend a hand. For a long time, Tony took an active role in the Lavington Community Association.

Tony’s family would like to extend a huge thank you to the nurses and care aids at Lakeview Lodge in West Kelowna.  The care that he received while in that facility was exceptional, and it helped the family knowing that he was receiving the best possible care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lavington Community Association or the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.

A ceremony for Tony will be held at a later date.
