CORDELLE, Derrill Gordon

It is with profound sadness that the families of Derrill Cordelle, of Kelowna, BC, announce his passing on April 10, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Derrill is predeceased by his son David, his parents George and Minnie Cordelle and his sister Maxine. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Grace. Together they shared an active and happy marriage of 66 years. Derrill was born in Coquitlam, BC and raised in the lower mainland. Joining the air force at the age of 18 he served overseas during World War II. Following the war Derrill married Grace and they raised their family in Keremeos, BC. During his working career Derrill owned and operated various super markets in BC and Alberta. He was proud to have shared this career firstly with his father and then secondly with his two sons. Derrill played baseball, basketball and golf. He was an active member of his community generously contributing to those in need. His quick wit and enthusiasm endeared him to friends whether on the golf course or a social gathering. Derrill is survived by his three children, Ian Cordelle, Drew Cordelle (Lana-Roi Ashton), Margot Sentes (Rick Sentes) and four grandchildren, Adam, Cordelle and Alexandria Rich and Reid Cordelle. A service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:30 am at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 607 – 5th Street, Keremeos, BC. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC, 4 – 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9.   If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”

    Cordelle family I lived in Keremeos at one point and remember
    Derrill when getting groceries he was always
    such a pleasant man.

    Dear Ian and Drew
    It is hard for me to find the words that might bring you comfort at this time of loss…but perhaps just knowing that i am thinking of you with sympathy and understanding will somehow help to give you strength at this difficult time. I am so very sorry for your loss and for the extreme sadness your mom GRACE is feeling. My condolences go out to your sister Margo and her husband, all the kids and your mom and dad’s close friends.

    Condolences to the Cordelle family !!! having worked for and with Mr Cordelle over the years I was saddened to hear of his passing! He always treated his employees and friends with kindness and respect, truly a nice man, he will be missed, sincerely Albert Johnson& family!!

    Grace and family,

    Sorry to hear of the passing of Derrill.
    When I was told of this, my first thoughts were of the great times (and learning) that I shared in the late 1950’s when I worked at the Keremeos Super Value. Your whole family- including the predeceased members of the Cordelles’- were a joy to work for and a pleasure to be around.

We believe you know how much we will miss Derrill,and how fondly we remember the first days of getting to know firstly him and Grace as neighbours and then later knowing you as very good friends, and then gradually meeting several family branches over the years. Our heartfelt sympathies come your way as we share in the sadness you feel.
