We Remember
CORMAN, Florence Irene
April 12, 1939 — March 19, 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Florence Corman (née Kumiega), announce her passing on March 19, 2022, at the age of 82. Florence was born April 12, 1939, in The Pas, Manitoba. She attended The Pas Collegiate until Grade 11, at which time she met and married the love of her life, Gilbert Corman. Florence and Gil spent two years in Lynn Lake, Manitoba, where their son David was born. Enticed by a beautiful calendar image of springtime in British Columbia, Florence convinced Gil to leave the frigid Manitoba winters, move across the country and start a new life in BC. Eventually they settled in Kelowna, where three more children (Julie, Kevin, and Heather) were born.
Florence was a nurturing and loving mother. Her children have many fond memories of growing up on the farm in South Kelowna with Florence at the forefront: shuttling the boys to Cubs and Brigades, leading Brownies and Girl Guides for the girls, encouraging and enduring children’s hobbies (ranging from playing the piano to flying Cessna airplanes), and cooking Sunday dinners for anyone and everyone who was in the house after church.
Once the children were older, Florence had time to pursue her own interests and passions. She volunteered at the Kelowna Art Gallery, Kelowna Museum, Rutland Health Unit, Kelowna Snowmobile Club, and later the Kelowna Community Theatre. She worked at numerous jobs in order to support her antique collecting habit and her love of travel; she made many friends through Bell the Mover, Purdy’s Chocolates, Elizabeth Fry Society, and the Kelowna auction house (where she admittedly spent more money than she made in wages).
Florence will forever be remembered as an elegant, beautiful, and caring mother and friend by all who knew her. She is survived and will be missed by her four children, David (Loraine), Julie, Kevin (Sheila), Heather (Drew); as well as three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert and her brother Art.
Florence cherished the friendship with her dear friend Chris Willms, who was there for her until the very end. The family will forever be grateful to Chris for her kindness and compassion to Florence in her last months.
At Florence’s request, a private family gathering will be held in April. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favourite charity on her behalf.

I always enjoyed the time I spent with Florence and listening to her stories, she had such a wide variety of talents. I fondly remember visiting her and Gil one Christmas in Kelowna. My sincerest condolences to all the Corman family members.
