We Remember

CRAIG, Thomas

April 3, 1954 — February 17, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas Craig announce his passing on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the age of 68.

Tom was born in Dublin, Ireland as the second of 7 children. After finishing school, he began his career as a mechanic, a profession he would devote himself to for almost 5 decades.

In 1978, he took a life-changing leap by moving from Ireland to British Columbia. Showing up in Canada with no money and no plan, Tom was undaunted by the challenge and quickly found work at the Utah Mines copper mine in Port Hardy. Shortly after, in 1979, Tom married his wife, Ann, and they welcomed daughter Deirdre in 1981, son Darren in 1984, and after returning to Ireland, son Kevin in 1990.

Tom’s hobbies included spending time with his family; Formula 1; cooking; all things aviation; finding ways to fix absolutely anything that broke in anyone’s house or vehicle; getting into political debates; and using his grandkids as an excuse to get DQ blizzards. He was an enthusiastic storyteller, who never passed up a chance for a one-liner. He recently achieved a longstanding goal by driving across Canada with Ann in 2021.

Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Ann; children Deirdre (Dave), Darren (Sherri), and Kevin (Sean); grandchildren Ben and Matthew; and numerous other family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to encourage the 17-35 year olds in your life to become a stem cell donor or donate to the Indian Residential School Survivors Society.

  • TERESA KENNEDY says:

    Ann, Deirdre, Darren & Kevin,
I cannot express enough how much I loved your husband, your dad, how much I admired him and how very much I plan to try to be half the person he was. If there was ever anyone that had their priorities so perfect, it was Tom. We can all learn from that, I intend to.
I’m so sorry that Tom has left you all, far too early, he was a true Gentleman, and I loved him. My sincere condolences to each of you.
    Love Teresa

  • Cate Christmas says:
