We Remember

CRESSWELL, Maxine Adell

November 5, 1932 — March 18, 2025

Maxine passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, in Kelowna, BC at the age of 92 years surrounded by her family.

Survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Calvin; Maxine was a beloved mother and grandmother: she will be missed by her son David (Martha) and grandchildren Lisa (Jack Gordon), Michael, Amy (Robert Neish), Steven, Katie Lynn (Jay Kennedy), and Bryan; and by her son Larry (Kimberley) and grandchildren Desmond (Leigh Holuboff), Adria (Nick King), Jesse (Chantelle), Lanni (Joel Loucks), and Derek. She was great-grandmother to Henry, Coco, & Nora Gordon; Melody, Caleb, & a newborn baby boy (who has yet to be named) Neish; and to Waylon & Hayes Loucks. Maxine is also survived by her sister Carol Fairburn of Preeceville, SK; and was aunty to at least four generations of nieces and nephews.

Born on the family farm 7 miles west of Endeavour, SK, Maxine was the second of six children born to the late Carl and Vera Clarentzius. She moved to Flin Flon, MB, and met up with Calvin Cresswell.  They were married on July 20, 1955, and for 7 decades they were side-by-side, doing everything together whenever possible; they travelled, golfed, and celebrated life’s milestones together, for some parts of their lives they even worked together.  They had 2 sons, David and Larry, and raised their boys in various places across the prairies, until they arrived in Kamloops, BC in 1972. That’s where they started and ran several successful businesses together – Cal managed the shop, while Maxine handled the bookkeeping and front-end operations.”

In 1995, Maxine and Cal retired to Kelowna, where their son’s families were living. This was a wonderful opportunity to spend more time with her family -what she enjoyed most. She relished reading stories to the little ones; playing games with the older ones; and watching soccer games and music concerts. Her nurturing nature extended to plants, whether indoor plants or garden flowers, and she passed her green thumb along to many of her grandchildren.

Maxine excelled at golf, and she enjoyed many years of golf at the Kelowna Springs Golf Club, where she was a member, and a perennial Ladies, Sr Ladies, or Super Sr Ladies club Champion.

Both Maxine and Cal enjoyed many trips throughout the world and spent more than 35 winters in California, New Zealand and Arizona, making them consummate snowbirds.

A constant and through line in Maxine’s life was her strong faith in God. She did her best to live out the principles in her day-to-day life and was very active in her church: teaching Sunday School and working in youth groups and ladies groups.

A celebration of Maxine Cresswell’s life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm (PDT), at the Mission Springs Church of God: 3705 Mission Springs Dr, Kelowna, BC.
