We Remember
CROCKETT, Mildred “Joan”
November 20, 1938 — December 19, 2023
Mildred “Joan” began her journey in Montreal, Quebec. In September 1976, she embarked on a new chapter of her life by moving to Calgary, Alberta. It was there that she found love and companionship with Jack, whom she married in April 1986. Joan and Jack embraced retirement and the serene beauty of West Kelowna, British Columbia, where they settled in 1998.
Joan spent much of her career working as an office administrator before co-owning Jack’s Oilfield Service, building pipelines, gas plants, and pump stations throughout western Canada.
Joan enjoyed spending time with family and friends travelling North America in the motor home, and visiting her ancestral home of Scotland. She was a dedicated member of several community organizations in West Kelowna, including the Lioness Club and the Stitch and Bitch quilting group, where she found joy in both service and creativity. Her involvement extended to the Westwood Retirement Resort, where she was an active social member. Her commitment to health care was evident through her leadership roles in the Westside Health Network, serving as president for five years and continuing her contributions as a director for another five years.
Joan is survived by her children David (Patricia) and Don; stepchildren Tom, Terry, Shane, Shawna, and Shannon (Ken); grandchildren Skylar, Austin, Cole, Liam, Hanna, and Sam; sister Carol (Gerry) and brother Keith (Lynn); sister-in-law Jean; and many extended family members. Joan was predeceased by her husband Jack; parents Mildred & Matthew Kerr; first husband Don Rutherford; brother Gord (Jean); and granddaughter Tianna.
Memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A Celebration of Life will follow in Spring 2024. Service information will follow.
