We Remember

DACKEWICH, Caroline Jean

November 30, 1963 — August 20, 2026

A true badass, Caroline finally laid down her gloves after several years of scrapping with more than one kind of cancer, and left this world on August 20th, 2026, at the age of 62. She was born on November 30, 1963, and spent every year in between giving the world exactly what she thought of it.

Caroline never had a serious bone in her body. She had the mouth of a trucker on her, a laugh that could be heard two aisles over at the grocery store, and colourful language she used liberally and without apology. Laughter was her medicine, and she handed out the prescription to everyone around her whether they asked for it or not. Her nieces and nephews knew her as “Auntie Strange,” on account of her being delightfully unpredictable, and if she loved you, chances are you had a nickname too. However, if you hadn’t gotten around to being lucky enough for a nickname yet, “Babe” would do just fine.

Caroline didn’t know the meaning of quitting, and if you handed her a fight, she’d take it. It took several cancers to even get her attention, and she beat them all the old-fashioned way: some swearing and tattoos. Slowing down was never really on the table for her. She was a devoted mother, amazing friend, and the best aunt! She kept right on playing the game of life with no quit. Whether it was family, friends, or near strangers, Caroline had your back – no questions asked, no exceptions made.

She could be found on a patio with a cold Canadian Molson beer and a pack of Number 7s cigarettes.

Once Caroline hit the workforce, it didn’t take her long to find her lane. She did a stint as a commercial artist first (and she was good at it, make no mistake), but her real love turned out to be building things: construction, creation, getting her hands dirty, and seeing something standing up by the end of the day. Her last job in the industry, ironically, was in Safety – and if you knew Caroline at all, you already know how funny that is. But, whatever the job, she showed up and got it done; she worked hard.

Caroline has gone to meet her husband, Lawrence Dackewich, in the hereafter. She is remembered by her daughters, Teryn, Shae-Lynn, and Shelby; her twin sister, Connie (Mel); her brother, Garnet; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Oh yeah, and her grand-dog, Marvin – the two of them were great pals.

No service will be held, by Caroline’s own wishes. She would rather see you do something you love doing with your time – she wouldn’t mind if you raised your next cold one in her name, though.

To all of you, she says, “Thanks Babe!”
