We Remember
DALTON, John Lloyd
May 1, 1934 — June 16, 2017
Lloyd was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the first child of William and Bernice (nee McLean). Lloyd left school as a young man to work for CNR as a telegrapher and was stationed in many small whistle-stops in western and central Canada. He returned to Winnipeg to complete high school and an honors Bachelor of Science in chemistry at the University of Manitoba. Several years later he earned a Master’s degree from Carleton University. Lloyd met the love of his life, Joyce, in 1957 at a Winnipeg ski club social event and the two were married in 1958. They moved to Ottawa shortly after the birth of their first son Ken (Thanh) in 1962 and had a second son Bruce (Lindsay) in 1964. They enjoyed a successful and active life in Ottawa until retirement in the early 1990’s.
Lloyd worked at the department of Energy, Mines and Resources for the federal government in Ottawa for 30 years as an analytical chemist. He loved to spend time active in the outdoors, in particular skiing, paddling, golf and leisure activities at the cottage.
He was predeceased by his sisters Lynn (Skelly) and Carol (Foerester). He is survived by his beloved wife Joyce, sons Ken of Ottawa and Bruce of Calgary and grandchildren Ben and Annie of Ottawa.
