We Remember

DEMCHESON, Roy

March 29, 1945 — January 15, 2026

We sadly announce the death of Roy Demcheson, husband to June Chiba (deceased) and brother to Shirley Demcheson and Dennis Perch.

Roy was many different things to different people. Upon building a career at Air Canada, he developed long and fast friendships with many of his co-workers, even working after retirement to restore a historic aircraft with others dedicated to the arial industry. In addition to his work, for more than 50 years Roy enjoyed a recreational life of extensive world travel, volunteering as a member of the Ski Patrol and camping and fishing with his life partner June. With June’s passing and with his own diagnosis of cancer, Roy volunteered as a driver for other cancer patients having less mobility. In his last years, he kept very active and also established a much stronger relationship with sister Shirley, brother Dennis, June’s siblings Kathy, Elaine, Heather and Geri and with nephew Peter.

Roy was a very mechanical guy. That was evident at the early age of 13 when he built what was then called a crystal radio from parts mailed to him from a Popular Mechanics magazine – on which he listened to well-known broadcasters like Ira Blum and Wolfman Jack late into the night. Later in life, Roy pursued larger mechanical pursuits, working on his own vehicles, making his own home repairs, and always being willing to take on the type of project that many of us would think wiser to default to professionals. His home, yard, and vehicles were always spotless. He would never rely on others if it was something he thought he might be able to do better himself.

Roy was a person who would not want anyone to make a big fuss about him so we will respect his wishes by keeping this brief. In memory of Roy, a brief service will be held where his ashes will be interred along side those of his loving wife June. A Graveside Service, will be held on MONDAY, APRIL 27, 2026, 12:00 PM, at KELOWNA MEMORIAL PARK CEMETERY 1911 BERNARD AVENUE, KELOWNA, BC.

We hope that, if you knew Roy, you can attend.
