We Remember
DEMPSTER, Walter Cunnis
—
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Cunnis Dempster after a long, difficult battle with cancer. He passed peacefully on December 3, 2020, at age 81, with family by his side.
Walter led an accomplished life serving the public. He was an Air Cadet member, a teacher, and a member of the RCMP. He attended RCMP boot camp in Ottawa and spent time policing in Alberta and Delta, BC. He eventually left the RCMP to attend UBC Law School graduating in 1972. He practiced law in the Lower Mainland before moving to Kelowna, BC in 1979 where he was a Crown Prosecutor until his retirement.
As a long time member of the Kelowna Yacht Club he enjoyed days on the lake with family and friends. He was a cheeky jokester with a healthy sense of humor. Walt organized “Booze Cruises” and was responsible for several “Invasions” of the other local yacht clubs where good times were had by all. He was an avid hockey fan and in his retirement enjoyed RVing.
Walter was a dedicated and devoted friend and went to great lengths to help and support them when needed.
He is predeceased by his wife Judy (d. 2004) and is loved, greatly missed and remembered by his spouse Carol Ava Dyer; and his children Walter John, Karen Louise (Wayne), and Patricia Ann (John); and twin grandsons Adam and Gavin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, likely spring/summer 2021.

So sorry for your loss our thoughts are with you
Just heard the news of Walt’s passing. A good friend for many years. A lot of memories and good times, including those years in the 70’s in Richmond at Seafair, and those ‘booze cruise’ days in the Okanagan, and all those hockey days together over the years. We will miss you old friend. Best wishes to Wally, hope all is well, and to the daughters, Karen and Patsy. Your dad was a good guy.
With Deepest Sympathy on your recent loss, Karen, Patsy, Wally jr.. Remembering the good old days at the old yacht club and on the water. Rest In Peace
Sad to read that Wally has passed away. Worked with him for a few months in 1990 when first moved here and then continued to deal with for almost 11 yrs, when working for Christiansen, Newcombe and Kennedy as a legal assistant. He was a very nice man, and very fair even though we were on opposite sides. Had a great sense of humour. Condolences to the family..
Sending my deepest condolences in Walt’s passing. I am the daughter of Barb and Bert Paisley who were good friend of Judy and Walt.
I was posted to Princeton in the mid 80’s and had the opportunity to work with Walter there. We built a working rapport, and had quite a few lunches together. We spoke about many different things, and I consider Mr. Dempster a sincere mentor. Smooth sailing, and peace.
