We Remember
DENBY, Raymond
November 5, 1938 — October 9, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray Denby, who passed away on October 9, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Epsom, England, on November 5, 1938, Ray’s journey brought him and his beloved bride, June, to Canada in 1966. What was intended to be a two-year stay turned into a lifetime, as they built their home and family in Canada, where they celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
Ray was a devoted father to his three children: Neil (Carmen) and Ray’s grandchildren, Nelson and Alex; Nigel (Janice) and grandchildren, Holly and Jonah; and Nicola (Derek) and grandchildren, Eric and Ryan. His love for his family was at the heart of everything he did.
A mechanical engineer by trade, Ray had a distinguished 30-year career with BC Hydro. He was a pioneer of the Power Smart program, which continues to shape energy conservation across the province.
After his retirement, Ray enjoyed 20 years of well-earned relaxation, filling his days with travel, golfing, and spending cherished moments with his family and friends. He also found a new passion in lawn bowling, where he made many fun memories and lasting friendships on the greens. Ray was a proud volunteer ambassador at Kelowna Airport for 12 years, where he greeted travellers with his signature dry wit and warm demeanour.
Known for his generosity and his endearing habit of buying electronics from Best Buy only to return them, Ray was a man who made an unforgettable impression on those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His dry sense of humour, his kindness, and his love for life will be forever remembered. Rest in peace, Ray Denby.

We were both so saddened to hear of Ray’s passing. I loved getting a warm hug from him at every family event and talking over our favorite movies and the latest British series he was watching. He will be greatly missed. We send all our love and sympathies to June and the entire family.
June I was so sorry to hear of Ray’s passing. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time. Bob and I send sincere condolences to you all. Ray will be missed on the bowling green for sure
We have taken some time to formulate the message we want to send to June and the Denby family. Our eldest daughter and their eldest son were married over 30 years ago and that was the beginning of our families joining together for many celebrations. Two months ago Ray and June moved into the same condo building that we have lived in for many years. We had so many plans but it turned out that Ray’s work on earth was done and we have to make a new plan.
Ray’s legacy of dedication to family and service to his community will live on in the hearts of all his family and friends.
We loved spending time with you Ray. Rest in peace, dear friend!
Condolences on behalf of YLW and all the Volunteer Ambassadors. We will miss Ray.
