We Remember

DERICKSON, Karen

May 30, 1942 — January 18, 2023

In loving memory of Karen Jean Derickson, who on January 18, 2023, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 80 after her long fight with dementia. She will be deeply missed by her son Glen Derickson (Cori); her son John Derickson (Sandi); her daughter Devi Derickson; 8 grandchildren Colten, Autrey, Macey, Chance, Carissa, Selina, Austyn and Westyn; and other family and friends.

Karen was born in Spokane, WA, and educated in New York and Seattle. She worked hard to raise her three children on her own near Seattle, while working in the accounting department at the Kenworth Truck plant. She moved back to Westbank First Nation (WFN) to be near her kids in the mid-1980s after her children had graduated. She worked for Northern Steel, before starting her 25 year career in the Finance Department as an accountant at WFN until her retirement. She served her community with hard work, dedication, love, laughter, and a giving spirit.

Karen was full of fun, and she was known for her big laugh. While she was a prankster and loved jokes, she balanced it with being wonderfully organized, and was hardworking and giving of herself. She loved her family and made sacrifices for their well-being and happiness. With her grandchildren, she was involved, often doing crafts with and for them. She was a great cook and baker and filled her food with love.

A special thank you goes out to Gabrielle for her special friendship and care of mom these past few years.

Karen will continue to live on in the hearts of friends and family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
