We Remember

DHAMI, Jarnail Singh

August 8, 1932 — April 16, 2021

It is with great sadness that the Dhami family announces the peaceful passing of Jarnail Singh Dhami on April 16, 2021, at the age of 88.

Jarnail is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Gurbax Kaur; his three sons Daljit (Baksho), Surjit (Jivan) and Servjit; along with his seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Surrinder Kaur.

Jarnail was born in the village of Piplanwala, Hoshiarpur, Punjab. Jarnail earned a Bachelor’s degree in Punjabi honors in India but also earned certificates in the field of Botany. In 1960, at the age of 28, Jarnail followed his great-grandfather and father and immigrated to Canada where he settled in Vancouver, BC. Eventually, Jarnail made his way to Kelowna, BC and worked for the City of Kelowna for over 35 years as a pesticide specialist, soil tester and gardener. Anyone who knew Jarnail can attest to his gift of the green thumb. His family remembers him watering his spectacular rose garden at his home on Mission Springs Drive, always by hand, not trusting the automated sprinklers to get the job done. Jarnail was an active and respected member of the Sikh Temple and Sikh community where he was an integral part of fundraising for the building of the first Gurdwara in Kelowna.

Every time we pass a garden of roses, we will smile and remember him doing what he loved most. As baba would say “thanks a million” for all the great memories!

A Funeral Service will be held to honour Jarnail, due to the current pandemic restrictions it will be by invitation only. The family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join by Livestream on SATURDAY, APRIL 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM PST (see below).  A recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
