We Remember
DiPASQUALE, William Joseph
October 18, 1934 — August 12, 2024
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather William DiPasquale peacefully left us on the evening of August 12, 2024, surrounded by his family after a short illness. William “Bill” was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Margaret. He leaves behind to grieve and forever cherish, his loving wife of 66 years, Doreen; his children Bill Jr. (Sandra), Carol, Denis, and Lisa (Ryan); his grandchildren Michael, Jennifer, Matthew, and Rachel; his sister Arlene, Shawnne, and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, long-time friends, classmates, and colleagues.
Bill came to Kelowna, BC in its early days from the famous “Gulch” of Trail, BC. He had a long and fruitful career, first in the private engineering consulting field, moving to the City of Kelowna, and after that, consulting with the cities of Port Moody, Vernon, and the Regional District of North Okanagan on numerous projects.
Bill was a Professional Engineer through and through, proving true all theories of engineers and their meticulous, fastidious and often, as his family was well aware, his eccentric and idiosyncratic habits and ways. In retirement, Bill continued to follow Kelowna’s ongoing growth and development with a keen interest. He enjoyed retirement, visiting with long-time friends; spending time at Big White, including acting as the liaison with the Regional District of Central Kootenay and their strata council; working around his yard, finally having the time to garden; reading; and continuing to travel the world with Doreen exploring new cultures. Football remained his one true sport, he followed the CFL and BC Lions with relish, as well as NFL and US college football with enduring enjoyment. Back in the day, New Year’s Day remained sacrosanct for its early morning to late night football schedule. When there was a good football game playing, Bill was there. His family will miss him dearly for his unmatched kindness, his loving quirky ways, his “Papa Smurf” nickname, his robust sense of humour, his ability to laugh at himself and enjoy many happy times with the family.
The family would very much like to extend their grateful thanks and appreciation to all Bill’s medical and health care staff at the Sindi Hawkins Cancer Centre; Kelowna General Hospital; and Hospice House Kelowna, during the past several months for their expert care, ever present kindness and attentive expertise and knowledge as he faced his various health challenges through the course of his illness. A special thanks to Drs. Locke and Ellard, and Dr. Ellard’s dedicated team at the Cancer Centre.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in memory of Bill would be very much appreciated and can be sent to Hospice House Central Okanagan.
There will be a Celebration of Life on SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER, 21, 2024, at 11:30 AM (PDT), at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1077 Fuller Avenue, Kelowna, BC. There will be a reception to follow.

Doreen and family,
Cheryl and I were so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. I first met Bill when I was a young engineer probably 40 years ago, and he left a lasting impression! Years later it was so nice to get reacquainted with him and to meet you, Doreen, as fellow Owners at The Monashee, where Bill’s contributions to the Strata Council over the years were invaluable. He will be missed by so many.
My deepest sympathy. I just found out.
Hope you are all well
Hello, I’m sorry for your loss. My father, Mario DiPasquale, also passed on the same day, 12 August 2024, in Melbourne Australia. Dad was born on 13 Feb 1930 in Abruzzo Italy, son of Giacomo Di Pasquale, an Italian – American citizen. Dad migrated to Oz in 1956. Maybe Bill and Mario were related. It may be both a coincidence and a blessing.
Thanks, Marissa. Our condolences as well to you for your loss. Interesting connections – I’d be happy to share our family tree with you. I can be reached by email at billdipas@gmail.com.
Doreen and family , my condolences to you all. I just found out about Bill’s death . It was not in the Trail paper. I grow up with Bill lived next door since I was 12 yr old. He was a very special person with that wonderful smile. Please forgive me for not responding sooner. Loretta Zanier
