DOLEGA-CIESZKOWSKI, Raoul

1939-2022

Raoul Dolega-Cieszkowski passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital at 83 years of age on November 13, 2022.

Predeceased by his father Aleksander; mother Maria; stepmother Mutek; and younger brother Edward. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence; children Raoul Jr, Jadwiga (Grant), Zofia (Brian), and Stefan (Olai); and five wonderful grandchildren.

Raoul was born in Warsaw, Poland. After the end of World War II, Raoul, along with his father and brother Ed, escaped war-torn Europe to live in England. In the fall of 1966, Raoul immigrated to Canada, along with his wife and children.

As an electronic engineer, his working life was spread over Ontario, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia, as well as many trips to the U.S.A.  He also owned his own photography business and studio in Saskatoon, SK. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including building his first house and renovating many others he lived in. He enjoyed music, beekeeping, cooking, and sailing. As a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years, he was made an Honorary Member Knight 3rd degree while still in the Parish of Trinity Catholic Church in Nanaimo, BC.

Regular visits with family in three provinces and the U.S.A. were an important part of his life. While deservedly earning his reputation as an unwaveringly humble man, he was truly proud of his children whom he loved and admired, as they each found their way in life in the country he chose to call home.

A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 10:45 AM, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2527 Hebert Road, West Kelowna, BC. A light lunch reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
