We Remember

DONHAUSER, Fredrick “Fred”

December 6, 1934 — February 4, 2024

We are sad to announce the passing of our father, Fred Donhauser on February 4, 2024, at the age of 89. Fred was born in 1934 in Reward, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his Mother, Magdalena (Andreas) and his Father, Leo Donhauser; as well as his 10 siblings.

At the age of 12, Fred moved with his family to Rutland, BC, where his father bought an orchard to farm. Later, Dad worked at the Rutland Sawmill. He met and married his true love, Dorothy Moser in 1955.  After purchasing their orchard in 1961, they settled in Winfield where they happily spent most of their lives farming and raising four daughters.

Dad was hardworking and strived to nurture his fruit trees to grow the best coloured apples he could. Mom and Dad loved fishing and camping with their friends and relatives. They also enjoyed travelling, in the off season, to various countries. They sold their farm in the spring of 2014 and moved to Kelowna, and in 2017 moved into the Village at Mill Creek Baptist Housing. When Mom passed away in 2020, Dad missed her immensely.

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his 4 daughters: Karen Van der Gulik (Ted) of Abbotsford, Fay Betuzzi (Kevin) of West Kelowna, Heather Schneider of Winfield and Jennifer Goett (Bruce) of Kelowna. Dad is survived by his brother Pius Donhauser; sisters Agnes Kellerman and Susan Selzler; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as 13 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Village at Mill Creek and all the doctors who cared for Dad.

Prayers will be held the night before the service on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 7:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2024, at 11:00 AM (PST). Both prayers and the service will be held at CORPUS CHRISTI ROMAN CATHOLIC PARISH, 750 Rutland Road, Kelowna, BC.

Karen Fay Heather Jennifer, Very sorry for the loss of your father. Most memorable was when I was a boy. Picking apples with Uncle Fred in the orchard on a beautiful summer day. Remarkably, we remember the smallest moments in our lives.

My family was neighbours of the Donhausers on Leathead Rd. A lot of good memories, one being your mom & dad’s wedding. They were wonderful people. My prayers are with you all. Norma.
