We Remember

DONOVAN, Daryl

December 16, 1966 — August 24, 2013

Passed away August 24, 2013 with his wife holding his hand, after a brief battle with cancer. Daryl was born on December 16, 1966 in Kamloops and grew up in Vernon, BC.

Daryl will be dearly missed by his wife Lori and three children: Aidan, Patrick and Ryan. He is survived by his parents Ray and Helen Donovan of Vernon, BC; his two brothers, one sister, numerous extended family and many special friends.

Daryl will be remembered for his great sense of humour and practical jokes, especially amongst his co-workers. He loved the Okanagan Valley and enjoyed all it had to offer, especially sharing the time with his boys while hiking the mountain trails, skiing Big White, mountain biking and spending summers at the family cabin on Okanagan Lake. Daryl could also be found on the sidelines of the soccer field, coaching all the boys; and his youngest son the past four years (COYSA), while encouraging his middle son Patrick and teammates with Kelowna United. He was also behind the bench with Kelowna Minor Hockey, coaching the “Flyers” to a successful season finish.

Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, August 28th at 7:00 pm at St. Pius X Parish in Kelowna. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 am, also at St. Pius X Parish, 1346 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC with Father Francis de la Cruz as celebrant. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

A special thank you to the wonderful nursing staff on 5B at Kelowna General Hospital and Dr. Sohayl Ghadirian during Daryl’s stay, and for outstanding care from his physicians: Dr. Kevin Oswald, Dr. Sanjay Rao, and Dr. Mary Wall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 5L3 www.bccancerfoundation.com

“When someone we love dies, it seems as if time stands still. And silence… a quiet sadness… often can be felt, not just heard, a longing for one more day… one more word… one more touch… And we may not understand why God chose to have him leave this earth so soon, or why he had to leave before we were ready to say goodbye, but little by little, we will begin to remember not just that he died, but that he lived. And that his life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. We will see him again someday, in a heavenly place where there is no parting. A place where there are no words that mean goodbye.”
