We Remember

DOWNHAM, Larry Joseph

October 6, 1950 — May 17, 2026

The family of Larry Downham announces his passing on May 17, 2026, at the age of 75. Larry was the kind of guy you never forgot; once you met him, that was it, he had a way of sticking with you. Charismatic, good with a joke, and blessed with those beautiful blue eyes, Larry had a knack for making the room a little more interesting.

Born October 6, 1950, Larry built a life that was entirely his own.  He started not one but two glass businesses, and most folks knew him as “Larry Lightening” of Lightening Glass. Then, he had the good sense to retire at 39. He knew how to work hard and he knew when to stop. He moved to BC and enjoyed life to the fullest.

Larry was happiest with the road under him and the rumble of an engine in his ears. It didn’t matter if it was two wheels or four; he rode a Kawasaki Vulcan Cruiser and had a soft spot for classic cars, especially his 1956 T-Bird, which he showed with obvious pride. He loved Patsy Cline and kept himself active. 15 years ago, he gave his time to the BC SPCA, where walking the dogs was a genuine pleasure. His favourite SPCA dog, Morgan, will be wagging his heavenly tail to see his beloved friend join him, as will Larry’s favorite dog that Janice and Larry had, Patches – a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel – whom Larry truly missed.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Janice King St Marseille; his children Toni Flick (Brad Trach) and Lisa Bertrand (Joe Bertrand); stepchildren Kyle and Sally St Marseille; and his grandchild Josh Bertrand (Adi). He is also survived by his brothers John Downham and Mike Downham; his nephew Mike and niece Dawn; as well as his brother-in-law Keith King (Jocelyne) and sister-in-law Darlene King (Marc Fournier). He will also be missed by his best friend Darrell Hart.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Dolores and John Downham; his grandson Tyrell Flick (July 12, 2022); and his dear friend Boris, who left us just two months before Larry did.

Larry was a tough nut to crack, and the world is a little quieter without him. We are going to miss him, that is for sure.

Memorial donations in memory of Larry may be sent to BC SPCA.
