We Remember

DRISCOLL, Yvonne Marie

July 1, 1940 — December 14, 2023

With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Yvonne Marie Driscoll (née Palendat) on December 14, 2023, in Kelowna, BC. She was 83 years of age, and her daughters were with her at her side.

Yvonne was predeceased by her parents, Eugene & Regina; her husband, Leonard; her son, Todd; and her eight siblings, Leon, Camille, Art, Edward, Ray, Barry, Albert, and Beverly. She is survived by her two daughters, Andrea and Lisa; her granddaughter, Dawn (Mason); and her great-grandson Maxon.

Born July 1, 1940, in Portage la Prairie, MB, Yvonne had a sparkle in her eyes and a smile that shone brighter than most. She made many friends during her long banking career at Scotiabank & CIBC. Mom lived in a body that let her down for 18 years after a devastating stroke robbed her of her mobility and speech in 2005. Her strength throughout this time was admirable and courageous. Before, Yvonne moved into a care facility for her remaining years, Andrea & Leonard (prior to his passing in 2019) dedicated their lives to the care of Yvonne at home. Andrea worked within the care home, further enriching Yvonne’s life and bringing her great comfort. Lisa supported from afar (Alberta) and made many trips home to spend precious time together.

Yvonne loved her family and friends, dancing, shenanigans, and watching the Blue Jays and hockey. Mom also loved “putting the pedal to metal” in her sports cars and, on occasion, verbalizing some colourful language during life’s travels. All who loved her dearly will never forget her sense of humour and her special way of communicating after she lost her speech.

Yvonne will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law, Judy Palendat-Schmidt (Bart), Sylvia Kavanaugh (Peter), and Sharon Moar; her brothers-in-law, Brian Bell and Gordon Driscoll (Sandy); as well as her many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Health Care Team at Mission Creek Landing; Dr. Swart; Dr. Wickstrom; and the Kelowna General Hospital for their kindness and care over the years. Also, thank you to Springfield Funeral Home.

As per Yvonne’s wishes, no service will be held. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in Yvonne’s honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

-She left the pain, and left us all, we will never be the same again. We will come together and laugh for Yvonne’s sake, as she would have wanted it the way.-

Sorry to hear about Auntie Yvonne’s passing. When I was a kid, I will always remember the way she talked to me, I felt comfortable around her. The first time Shawn met Cathy, Auntie Yvonne said to her I really like you. She just had away to make you feel comfortable ❤️

Mom, was so important to Todd and I soon knew why when I started working at Mission Creek Landing. We shared tears together and her bright eyes smiling and response of “yes, yes, yes.” Made my day! I know where big Todd got his big heart and know that they are giggling together ❤️❤️❤️‍🩹
