We Remember

DUECK, Richard Jacob “Racer Rick”

July 3, 1968 — February 1, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Racer Rick, he left us in the early morning of February 1, 2022, at the Interior Health Central Okanagan Hospice House. He battled with colon cancer for almost 2 years, and it has finally ended.

Rick was born in Kelowna, BC and graduated from KSS (Kelowna Secondary School). He held various jobs throughout his life. Ricks passion was all-things-car. He was very involved with the local car community and a regular at Thunder Mountain speedway. He thoroughly enjoyed car shows and meetups, he could often be found taking pictures and chatting with everyone. Rick belonged to a number of social media groups dedicated to cars and drew great comfort and support through his online friends over the past year. He especially enjoyed and was thankful for Okanagan auto enthusiasts, where he found a safe place, without judgment, to post about his life.

A highlight of the past year for Rick was the opportunity to ride in a brand-new Lamborghini with Matt August. He spoke of this often, and he was so genuinely thankful to Matt, and his social worker Ashley, for making this happen.

Rick is survived by his mother Gerda Dueck; his siblings Steven Dueck, Irwin (Denise) Dueck, Christine (David) Halls, Danny (Deanna) Dueck, and Leonard (Cheryl) Dueck; his nieces, nephews, and their children; and many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Dueck (d. 1989).

We, as a family, would like to say a heartfelt thank-you to the community palliative care team, the staff and volunteers at The Central Okanagan Hospice House, and especially to Dr John Dawson and Katrina from HealthWise family practice for the exemplary care provided to Rick throughout his Illness.
