With sadness, the family of Mary Ellen (Wylie) Duncan announce her death on May 4, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, where she had resided for more than 15 years.
Mary Ellen was born in Winnipeg, MB on January 11, 1947, and grew up in Summerside, PEI. Partner of the late Stephen Duncan, mother to Emma (Neil) Duncan, sister to Alice (Bryan) Harnois, Bob (Tanya) Wylie, and Alex (Gisele) Wylie, and aunt to three nieces and a grandnephew. She will be missed by the many friends that she made wherever she went.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Kelowna Library (Okanagan Regional Library), the Summerside Library, or your local library.
Mary Ellen attended the meetings of the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre Alumni. She enjoyed our lunch gatherings in Kelowna and will be missed by our group. A donation in her memory is being sent to the Kelowna Library.
Mary Ellen, or M.E. As she was lovingly nicknamed, was such a wonderful, funny, kind friend and co-worker. Always there with words of wisdom or a joke, drained many tears. We will all remember her so fondly. Our condolences to you all.

My sympathies to Mary Ellen’s family. Back in 1971-72 we were roommates with 2 others, all nurses, in an apartment on Walmer Road in Toronto. Mary Ellen was so much fun and so easy to talk to. It was a great time. I know she will be missed.
I was very saddened to receive the news of MaryEllen’s passing. She was a great friend and classmate over many decades. Her quick wit and humour was always a pleasure to enjoy, whenever we met at reunions. We were all so happy to spend time with her at our gathering in Kelowna, May 2016, to celebrate 50 years since we entered nursing school. She will be dearly missed. My sincere condolences to Emma, her classmates and many friends. May she be pain free as her beautiful spirit meets other dear classmates and loved ones.

I enjoyed reconnecting with ME at the Reunion of our class in Kelowna in 2016. We had a special connection then ,as she knew Bruce, my brother, who also lives in Kelowna. I was saddened to hear of her passing.

My condolences to the family of Mary Ellen on the loss of your precious mother, sister and aunt. May you and all her friends find comfort in the wonderful memories she created when with us. For me, that was through our times in the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, class reunions and latterly, through Facebook and Messenger. Mary Ellen was always encouraging and positive even in times of struggle. She is an inspiration for us and I am thankful to have known her.
Blessings to all.

I was so sorry to hear that Mary Ellen had passed. She and I lived together in Toronto and travelled through Europe. Life happened and we went our separate ways. I fondly remember our time together, her sense of humour and natural warmth and kindness. I feel lucky that our paths crossed. Hopefully, in time, your sweet memories will fill the void of her passing.
Much too soon to lose a loved one, Emma, & friends! Those of us whose name was at end of alphabet had more contact in ’66 through ’69. at WGH. I admired ME’s spirit, confidence & sense of adventure. Sadly. distance & life separated many of us. Blessings, Sheron
MaryEllen was a lovely kind human being. She was a comfort to me as we shared the diagnosis of Fibromyalgia. She had other illnesses that I knew about..I liked her very much.
My sympathy to Mary Ellen’s family and friends. Mary Ellen had a wonderful sense of humour and was
very kind; both qualities a prerequisite for a good nurse! I will remember her with fondness.
A fond memory: The senior prom at Summerside High School, Summerside, PEI, June 1965. A double date with Mary Ellen and her date, and my date and me. Mary Ellen’s date had the car. The beach after the dance. Mary Ellen’s joie de vivre on that occasion and throughout our high school years is easily remembered. I hope I thanked her for having been a wonderful classmate in our class of 1965, SumHi. My condolences to the members of Mary Ellen’s family.
A wonderful cousin and great friend. Please see the message I wrote.
