We Remember
DURKEE, Richard Glenn
December 20, 1956 — December 24, 2023
Just 4 days after celebrating his birthday, Richard Durkee unexpectedly passed away at home and went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2023.
On December 20, 1956, Richard was born to parents Edith Muriel Sturman & Frederick Glenn Durkee in Barrie, ON. He lived life to the fullest and his granddaughters held a special place in his heart, he loved them more than anything. After a multitude of life experiences, he was able to balance the joy of the simple things in life (like spending time with his granddaughters and with his son’s family dog, Bella) with the complexities of the universe, and he maintained his fascination with the stars and astronomy.
Richard leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, Chris & Danielle and his grandchildren: Ava Durkee (age 14), Malia Durkee (age 9) Jakob (age 17), Josh (age 14), Noah (age 12), and Jr. (age 10). He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Sue, Sandra, Ron, and Jason. Sadly, he was predeceased by his son, Michael Durkee.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM (PST), at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand that an angel came & called my name & took me by the hand ; the angel said my place was ready , In Heaven far above, & that I’d have to leave all those I dearly love. But when I walked thru Heaven’s gates I felt so much at home, for GOD looked down, smiled at me and told me “Welcome Home” . So when tomorrow starts without me, don’t think we’re far apart, for every time you think of me, I’m right there in your heart.
I’m so so sorry for your loss Chris and Family……I saw this beautiful poem and wanted to share it with all of you, Sincerely Norma
Met Rick at a workshop. Thought he was witty and kind and he made a great impression in the group. Ever since then we stayed in touch through FB and messenger. He always talked highly about his family. God bless you my friend. We will miss you.
My heart is so heavy with the sorrow I feel for this wonderful man’s light leaving this world far too early. He was so very kind, giving and compassionate! I loved that he laughed so easily and cared so gently for every living thing. My profound condolences to all who loved Rick. Rest peacefully in God’s loving arms my sweet friend.
So sorry to hear of this news. Praying for peace and comfort for your family.
My thoughts and prayers to the Durkee family. To the grandchildren I say, you have many happy memories to cherish, you will not forget. He will always be with you, in your heart and is watching from above. Safe journey Richard, it was a pleasure knowing you.
I’m real sorry to hear about Rick. I had not seen him since the 70s when I lived near Barrie .He and my brother Wayne used to hang out together with cousin Terry. My thoughts are with all of you.
