We Remember

ELLIOTT, Erika Elfriede

November 1, 1935 — June 23, 2023

Elfriede passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family at her home in Kelowna, British Columbia, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Pegau, Germany, with her twin sister, Ruth Bahl, on November 1, 1935, Erika Elfriede Elliott (née Sonnwald) was in her 87th year.

Elfriede, married to Dick for 54 years, was a military wife.  She kept the family in check and the home in order.  With each military posting, Elfriede quickly made new friends.  In retirement, she and Dick settled in Kelowna, where more friendships were formed.  She enjoyed a good game of cards, going to bingo and the casino.  Elfriede enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories, advice, and preparing the family’s favorite meals.  She will be lovingly remembered for her strength and love.

Beloved wife of James Gary (Dick) Elliott; loving mother of Sandy Wilson, Janet (John) Ashton, and Gary (Andrea) Elliott; cherished Oma of Michael Wilson (Melissa Morrison), Gary Wilson, Rob Wilson (Terry Hall), Shane Wilson, Erika Ashton (Marcel Tardif), Richie (Megan) Ashton, Carson Elliott, Norah Elliott, and Anna Elliott; and Great Oma to nine great-grandchildren; dear sister of Ruth (Werner) Bahl and 9 other siblings in Germany, all of which are deceased; sisters-in-law Pat (Dean, deceased) Armstrong, Diane (Stan) Armstrong, brothers-in-law Mike Elliott, and Bill (Maureen) Elliott, both deceased. Elfriede will also be missed by all her friends and extended family members.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Moffat, Dr. Shaw, and every member with Palliative Care, for your exceptional service and compassionate and gentle care.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
