We Remember
ESO, Polly Anne
April 22, 1939 — September 15, 2025
In the early morning of September 15, 2025, Polly Eso’s 86-year life journey ended peacefully, surrounded by her family. The last several years were difficult for Polly, as she suffered from the effects of a stroke which challenged her voice and mobility. We draw comfort from the fact that she is now with her husband John, who passed in 2021. Polly is predeceased by her parents Anna and Mathias Ivanschitz, and her siblings, Mathias (Ivans), Marie (Pekrul), and Agnes (Malen).
Her parent’s emigrated from Austria to Canada in 1927, settling in Rutland, BC, where they developed and farmed a large cherry orchard for many years.
Polly was born on April 22, 1939.
Polly fell in love with John Eso and in 1957 they tied the knot, and were blessed with 64 years of marriage. Shortly after they married, they purchased the Eso family orchard on Swamp Road in Kelowna, BC, where they resided for the next 23 years raising their three children: Michael Eso (Sheri), Sylvia Brow (Steve) and Tanis Rantucci (Rob).
John and Polly gradually reduced their ownership in the orchard over the following years, selling the remainder in 1988. In the mid 90s, John and Polly developed the piece of land below their house on DeHart Road, resulting in Eso Court being named after them.
Polly’s family has always been the most important thing to her. Cooking and baking for those she loved brought her immense pleasure. To the very end of her life, Polly enjoyed her time with her six grandchildren, Lyndsy & Jesse Brow, Jonathon & Justin Rantucci, and Brandon & Morgan Eso, and one great-grandchild, Avery-Rose Eso. She also adored her many nieces and nephews, who have fond memories of “Aunty Polly”.
Our memories of happier times with Polly and John will always remain with us.
We would like to thank Dr. Michael Koss and all the staff at Mountainview Good Samaritan Village for the loving care that Mom has received there since 2018. Mom made many new friendships and memories. Mom’s time was spent in the Assisted Living Building, followed by the last 2 1/2 years in the Complex Care Building where she adjusted post stroke to living her life in a new way.
Thank you Mom, for showing us to keep going even when life brings us challenges, and to have faith because anything is possible. You are in our hearts forever!
To honour Polly, a Memorial Fund has been created through the BC Cancer Foundation specially in her name. Contributions can be made online at bccancerfoundation.com/PollyEso
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 am (PDT), at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC, with a reception to follow. At 2:30 pm, interment will take place at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Avenue.
