FAKHREDDINE ABI-MERSHED, Selena

It is with profound sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved Selena Fakhreddine Abi-Mershed, whose precious life was taken from us on September 1, 2026, just weeks before her 28th birthday.

Selena was born in Westlock, Alberta, on September 22, 1998, to her parents, Ramzi Fakhreddine and Rima Hamdan. She grew up surrounded by the love of a large family alongside her five sisters: Zeina (Mahmoud Al Masri), Layal (Mike Sarieddine), Asma (Hassan Nassereddine), Amanda (Amir Daou), and Rena Fakhreddine.

Being one of six sisters meant Selena was part of a bond filled with shared memories, laughter, love, and all the moments that make sisterhood so special. She was also a cherished aunt to nine nieces and nephews. Anabel, Lilliane, Marwan, Ameen, Tiana, Zayn, Ramzi, Chloe, and Diam. All whom she loved dearly. Her family was an important part of her world, and the place she held within theirs can never be filled.

Selena graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Edson, Alberta, in 2017. Following graduation, she embarked on a new chapter in her life, moving to Lebanon, where she pursued a career in childcare. Her journey later took her to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where she continued building her life and creating new experiences and memories along the way.

On August 7, 2022, Selena married Wissam Abi-Mershed in Aley, Lebanon. Together, they began a new chapter of their lives, starting in Abu Dhabi, UAE and eventually making their home in Lake Country, British Columbia, where Selena was building a life filled with hopes, plans, and dreams for the future.

Selena found happiness in the simple and beautiful things in life. She enjoyed going for walks and taking in the beauty of nature around her. She had a deep love of music and was blessed with a beautiful singing voice—a gift that brought another dimension to the warmth and beauty of who she was.

She also developed a great love for reading. When a story captured her imagination, Selena could lose herself completely within its pages, often making her way through an entire series in what seemed like no time at all. Books became another world for her to explore and another source of joy in her life. More recently, Selena was also discovering something beautiful within herself. She was learning to cast aside some of her fears, to be brave, to try new things, and to experience more of what life had to offer. With each new experience came greater confidence, more laughter, more adventure, and a growing sense of freedom.

She was loving her life, and she had so much to look forward to.

Selena’s life will never be defined by the way it ended. She will be remembered for the life she lived, the daughter she was, the wife she became, the sister and aunt her family adored, Selena had a beautiful light within her. A vibrant, magnetic spirit that drew people close and made so many fall in love with the person she was.

Selena leaves behind her beloved husband, Wissam Abi-Mershed; her parents, Ramzi Fakhreddine and Rima Hamdan; her five sisters and their families; and an extended family and circle of friends who will carry her memory with them always.

There are some losses for which words will never be enough. The pain and sorrow of losing Selena run deeply through her family and through all those who knew and loved her. Selena, you were loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond words.

May we remember your love.
May we remember the dreams you carried and the beautiful young woman you were becoming.

And may we always remember that although your time with us was far too short, your life mattered, you were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 2:30 pm, located at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery,1991 Bernard Ave., Kelowna, BC.
