FARTACZEK, Friedrich Xavier


Friedrich “Fred” Fartaczek, age 84, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on February 4, 2021, at Brandt’s Creek Mews where he received wonderful care in his final years of life.  Fred was born August 16, 1936, in Augustendorf, Romania, to Antony and Margarita Fartaczek.  He immigrated to Canada with his parents and one sister in 1952.  He later returned to Dortmund, Germany, in 1963, to meet his long-time pen-pal, Margret Scheidler, and brought her home to Kelowna, British Columbia.  Fred later married Margret on May 9, 1964.  Fred was a talented carpenter/project manager with various construction companies for over 40+ years.  He was extremely hard-working and displayed a wonderful knack for solving problems on the job site.  He enjoyed fishing, polka dancing, German music, and spending time with family and friends.  He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church and the Local 1370, Carpentry’s Union.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Margret; four children Marge (Darren) Ablitt, Fred (Carmen) Fartaczek, Linda (Lowin) Zander, and Alan (Cheryl) Fartaczek; sisters Clara (Heinrich) Geigenmüller and Zita (Fred) Schmidt; and seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents Antony and Margarita Fartaczek.
