We Remember

FITZNER, Michael John

October 26, 1951 — October 5, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mike Fitzner, this past week of October 2026, just shy of his 75th birthday.

He is survived by his five children: Stacy Godard (nee Pawliuk), Calvin Pawliuk, Jarrod, Shaun, and Joel Fitzner; 14 grandchildren; 4 brothers: Chris, Jeff, Tim, and Kurt; and his sister Sally.

Mike was predeceased by his brother Garth; his beloved furry companion Max (Maxine) of 17 years; his first wife Sharwin; and his parents Rein and Elayne Fitzner.

Mike was born in Lindsay, Ontario, and grew up in Edmonton, where he later married. Mike spent most of his life in Alberta, where he held several jobs: the stockyards in Edmonton; Alberta traffic supply in Lethbridge; and Loomis Courier in Edmonton.

He moved to the Okanagan in 2006 to be near his sister Sally. Mike and his sister Sally shared a relationship that was truly considered unconditional love and an unbreakable friendship; there is nothing they wouldn’t do for one another.

Mike finished his working career with 10 years at Okanagan College, first as a Courier and then as a tool technician dispensing tools to the new students in the tool room. Everyone knew Mike at the college, and he was well known for his work ethic, humour, and fun-loving nature.

Mike had a passion for music, fishing, and playing crib. Mike always went the extra mile whether it came to being of service to his neighbours and others, working in his various jobs or simply living life.

He spent countless weekends while living in Edmonton at the Fitzner Lake lot on Upper Mann Lake with his boys, instilling in them his love for the outdoors, fishing, and music! He didn’t believe that he did enough as a father, but his boys have made it very clear that he was the most amazing father to them, and they cherished all the time they had together. Mike’s boys feel they are where they are today because of the many skills and lessons their Dad taught them. Mike was and always has been more than enough for his family.

Mike and his sister Sally attended numerous concerts while living in the Okanagan. A highlight of Mike’s life was seeing one of his favourite artists, David Gilmour from Pink Floyd, at the Royal Albert Hall in London with his sister.

Mike’s motto in life was Live, Love, and Laugh!

He will be remembered for living life passionately, loving deeply, and laughing, never enough!

“Don’t be having no fun!”

At Mike’s request, there will be no service. The family would ask that you just leave a memory of Mike and any pictures you might have.
