We Remember
FLEGEL, Edwin
June 20, 1931 — May 29, 2026
Edwin Flegel passed away on May 29, 2026 surrounded and supported by his entire family. Ed was predeceased by his parents Martin and Emilie Flegel. He was a good brother to sisters Adeline (passed 2026) and Edna.
Ed was married for 70 years to the love of his life, Anna Flegel. His three girls, Cindy (Roy), Cheryl (Lori) and Dalene (Greg) were blessed to have been raised by such a wonderful father and cheerleader. He was quite simply the best of the best! His grandsons Brett, Evan, Connor and Gavin enjoyed creating many memories with their Papa. Gavin has been eagerly awaiting Papa’s arrival in heaven, and he will have secured skybox tickets for the Blue Jays!
Edwin was delivered into this world by Grandma Schneider on the farm in Briercrest, SK in 1931. It was there he met his bride, Anna, at Briercrest High School. They married in Moose Jaw on November 5, 1955, farmed briefly, then settled in Edmonton, AB to raise their family. Quick-witted, generous and full of life, Edwin was a true gentleman who always put others first. Remarkably ingenious, he could invent or fix anything. A man of many passions, he filled his life with sport, adventure, travel, and creativity and taught his children to do the same. He cherished his family, his friends and his years running Dutch Lake Motel and Campground in Clearwater, BC with Anna, his devoted partner. Active and agile well into his later years, he and Anna were known as “the kids” at Hawthorn Park—always on the go, always hand in hand. A true Flegel man; a man of his word, with a big heart and open arms. Edwin passed peacefully, surrounded by family. What a beautiful long life lived well.
The family wishes to thank the teams at Hawthorn Park; Hospice House Kelowna; and his doctor, Ben Prozesky, for their exceptional kindness and care.
Your consideration of a donation to the Hospice House Kelowna would be appreciated.

We were sad to hear of Uncle’s passing. He truly was one of the nicest people, ever!! As kids, he was always up for a good game of street hockey. Uncle Ed was a fabulous host. He doted and always made sure your wine glass was full. I will miss his welcoming smile and the twinkle in his eyes.
Our sincere condolences. He will be missed!
He will stay alive in all your wonderful memories. XOX

I will always remember him as a patient and devoted father. He carried himself with dignity and was consistently polite, friendly, and welcoming, always with a cheerful smile. His love and dedication as a husband and father are beautifully reflected in the close, healthy, and successful family he helped nurture. He will be remembered with great warmth and respect.

I met Mr. Flegel through my friendship with Roy an Cindy. At once I could see that he was a true gentleman in all the senses of the word. How fortunate was his family to have him as their patriarch.
Sending my love and deepest sympathy to the family, especially to Mrs. Flegel. I hope that the memories you share will keep his spirit near and bring you comfort.
Sandy, Roy, and Family! Sorry to hear that your dad he’s passed away. He was a Wonderful Human Being.

Aunty, Dalene, Cheryl, Cindy and families we send all of you our love. What a beautiful service. Uncle once again could be proud !! Thank you for every Christmas shared, every trip to the yarn shop every run down to the ravine out back and so much more. You sure made us kids feel special!! So thank you grandly for that. Thank you Uncle for your constant grounded presence always. So grateful to be able to attend from afar. We will get that way yet.
Until we do …… know how greatly we treasure you Aunty! So many fun times 🩷.
To the whole family: I knew Ed for 20+ years, and every year there was a family reunion, he would fill me in on yet another line of Flegels and sometimes quiz me as well. There were a lot of jokes and laughter when we came through to see Ann and Ed each year. I will miss Ed very much.
Our condolences to your family. We remember Ed as always having a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and a quick comeback to Don and Roy’s ribbings while playing cards. He was such a gentle man and will be truly missed. Rest in peace Ed.
