Flora May “Tudy” Fortnum, born October 12th, 1942, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on February 8th, 2024.
At one year of age, Tudy, her parents, and older sister Bernice, moved to Kelowna, where she grew up. Tudy attended Central Elementary School prior to going to Kelowna Senior Secondary School until grade 9, later moving to Vancouver with her parents, where she graduated from King Edward High School in 1960. Following graduation, she attended Briercrest Bible Institute in Saskatchewan, graduating in 1963. While attending Briercrest, she met the future love of her life, Calvin E. Fortnum, and they were married in August 1964.
Tudy and Cal started their journey in Richmond and then relocated to Kelowna in 1969. Tudy devoted her life to her family and to her church. She took great pride in raising her 3 children Scott, Greg, & Janny, supporting them in many school activities and in various sports. She also volunteered and oversaw Sunday School Programs at Church and helped establish a number of Church camps.
After her children left home, Tudy found a new passion and became a dental assistant in 1989. She worked in the industry for more than 20 years and established many cherished relationships in her “work family.”
Upon her retirement, Tudy launched into her final career, the one that clearly gave her the most joy – being a full-time grandma to her 9 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. She loved and encouraged each and every member of her family – never missing a birthday or an anniversary – and every phone call and card expressing her unconditional love and support. In fact, she was literally returning from mailing off another card when she passed away. Her love for us and love for her “family” was fierce and a testament that will endure.
Tudy is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Calvin. She leaves a legacy embraced by her children Scott (Debbie), Greg (Tasha), and Janny (Greg); and her cherished grandchildren James, Karly (Nathan), Moriah, Shanna (Will), Noah, Nathaniel, Isabella, Megan, Ryun; and great-granddaughter Scottie. She is predeceased by her parents Peter & Norma Familinow; and her sister Bernice Klassen.
Tudy will be sorely missed.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a Christian youth/children’s camp of your choice.
There was an opportunity to say goodbye to Tudy and to visit with the family on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2024 from 4-5 PM, located in the CHAPEL OF SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC.

I was so happy that Tudi and I finally got together for teatime on her last Friday, we had looked forward to it for a while but due to travel and her surgery earlier on, we finally got together and really enjoyed catching up. She was a true example of a friend who would drop everything to help wherever and whenever she could. I am thankful for her friendship!
I so enjoyed you, Tudi, first of all at Briercrest and more recently when you invited the ladies from the Class of ’63 to your home for a weekend. That was so precious. You positive attitude rubbed off on people as you met them with your lovely smile. My condolences to you, Cal and your family as you grieve her passing. Arlene Heppner

Tudy’s love for Jesus, Cal, and her family was always on display. She truly reflected the love of Jesus to us all. She had a constant twinkle in her eye and smile. We know you will all miss her so much, but also know she is face to face with her Saviour and that God will give you the strength to endure with the peace that surpasses all understanding.
She was a very special lady and we are lifting you all in our prayers.

I have been holding off on adding my condolences as I am still accepting Mrs. Fortnum’s passing. Not only was she in my life at the very beginning (53 years ago), she also was there for me in the most recent years, especially after the passing of my mother, Denise Nahirney. Mrs. Fortnum was the kindest sole, always had a smile, and always, always new how to make one feel special. I and the Nahirney Family send their love.
