We Remember

FRANK, Agnes Mathilde (née Bisanz)

July 9, 1921 — June 13, 2019

It is with sadness the family announces the passing of Agnes Frank on June 13, 2019, at the age of 97.  She is survived by her son Waldemar (Walter) and daughter Renée, as well as niece, Ava Duering (Doug). She is also survived by a large and loving extended family and circle of friends to whom she was very devoted. Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Otto, and sister, Erna Duering.

Agnes was born on July 9, 1921, in Lvov, Poland (now Lviv, Ukraine).  She married Lutheran Pastor Otto Frank during war-time on October 29, 1939. She and family members were forced to flee Poland with her infant son in horse-drawn wagon to Germany. Otto then served in congregations in northern Germany until 1952, when the family immigrated to Canada.

Agnes was active in congregations in Alberta served by Otto in Millet and Golden Spike where daughter Renée was born.  She assisted Otto in his work, directing the choir in Hay Lakes until 1974, when they retired to Winfield, BC, where Waldemar operated Frank’s Orchard. Since then, Agnes was a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church.  She looked forward to Sunday worship and the fellowship that sprang from church involvement, including her earlier choir participation.

Agnes loved dancing and enjoyed singing in her clear, high soprano voice. She loved to entertain and excelled at hosting dinner parties. Agnes had a great sense of humour. At the age of 90, she became obsessed with the music of Roy Orbison, after a lifetime ignoring rock and roll.

She would have wanted guests to wear bright, happy colours at the funeral service.

Please join us on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 11:00 am at Christ Lutheran Church, 2019 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, with Rev. Patricia Giannelia officiating. Lunch to follow.  Interment will then take place in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, www.christevangelicallutheran.com, or a charity of your choice.
