We Remember
FRUSON, Pastor Herbert Edmund “Herb”
—
Herb was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to Herbert and Linda (Schober) Fruson on October 18, 1927. He went home to Jesus on June 28th, 2016.
He grew up on the farm near Cactus Lake, Saskatchewan and attended a one room country school. He finished his grades 11 and 12 at Concordia Lutheran College in Edmonton, Alberta graduating in 1946. After 6 months of Normal School in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He taught in 3 different county schools. At this point he felt “God’s call” to Pastoral Ministry so enrolled for a 2 year pre-ministerial studies again at Concordia College. He then spent 4 more years at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri. His vicarage was at First Lutheran Church in Windsor, Ontario. He graduated from the seminary in St. Louis in 1946 and took another year of post-graduate studies before accepting a call to serve as Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dawson Creek, BC. He preached in both German and English Services each Sunday morning and conducted services in Goodfare, Alberta in the afternoon and Demmitt, Alberta, in the evening. Alternate Sundays he preached afternoons in Fort St. John, BC. Saturdays he taught children all day Bible School in the Goodfare church. In 1960 he married Lynnette Jones in Kelowna, BC. God blessed them with 2 children, Verna and Mark. Over the years they fostered 5 children. Rene and Shawn joined the family in 1971. After 7 years Herb was called to Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, BC, where he ministered for 14 years, and also served at Emmanual Lutheran Church in Aldergrove, BC for 4 years. Later he operated a siding business and acquired his journeyman ticket in carpentry and worked in that field as well. In 1992 he and Lynnette relocated to Kelowna, BC where he worked with Mark for a number of years both on his farm and in the construction industry. Over the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, working vacations on the home farm in Saskatchewan and attending Bible Camp with family. He was a humble man and never wanted recognition for his accomplishments. His favorite pastime was reading and studying God’s Word with a keen interest in archeology. He spent many hours playing hymns and choruses on the key board and was challenged with crossword puzzles. His greatest passion was his love for the Lord Jesus, his Savior, and service to Him. His last 2 and a half years were spent at the Brandt’s Creek Mews, where he was lovingly cared for. His family includes: Verna (Dwaine), Mark (Karla), Rene (Wayne), Shawn (Catalina), 11 grandchildren Brent (Ariele), Stephen, Katherine, Julia, Ethan, Carissa, Shayne, Rebecca (Darryl), Krista, Lauren, and Sean and 2 great grandchildren, Margret Rose, and Chevy, and also 2 brothers William and Arthur Fruson. He was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Linda Fruson and his brother Edward Fruson.

Dear Lynette,
We were so sorry to hear about your great loss. We feel blessed to have had the pleasure to get to know you around Brandt’s Creek Mews. After reading the wonderful obituary tribute to Hugh this verse came to mind: Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. You and your husband have no doubt been an inspiration to many in your lives. That legacy will live on forever.
Our love and prayers are with you and your family,
Dana and Doug Howe and Max Ongaro
Dear Lynnette and family,
We were sorry to hear of Herb’s passing, but are assured that he is with his Lord and Saviour awaiting all of us and rejoicing with the saints in heaven. We have fond memories of your time in Abbotsford at Trinity Lutheran on Cherry Street. May God be your family’s comfort at this time.

It has been my joy and blessing to visit with Herb on different occasions as a pastor from Evangel Church. I was always impressed with his quiet gentle spirit. When I’d pray he too would pray. God bless you Lynette for your faithful care of Herb in his declining years. The comfort of the Holy Spirit will give you strength and courage in the days ahead. I’m sorry we will not be able to attend the service on Monday, but our prayers are with you. Blessings!!!
Dear Lynette, Shawn and Catalina … we send our love and hugs and pray the Lord’s comfort and peace is your strength…. We have such fond memories of first living next door to the church in Abbotsford (on Marshall) … and then we shared good fellowship in Countyline Christian Fellowship. . You often come to mind … will keep you in our prayers .. Vic and Julie
