GALLAGHER, Olive (née Smith)

Olive died peacefully on September 13, 2019 at the age of 86. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bill; her daughters Donna Gallagher, Kathy Cherry, and Brenda Gallagher; her son, Brian Gallagher (Annelle); her grandchildren Russell, Laurell, Corinna, Mathew, Nathen and Curtis; her great grandchildren James, Mathew, Kevin and Michael; her great-great granddaughter Keena; her brother Dennis; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, 7 siblings and 3 grandsons.

Born in Vernon, BC to Henry and Zettie (née Bailey) Smith, she grew up in Falkland, BC and lived out her life with her family in the Okanagan, the Kootenays and the BC interior. Olive was a loving wife and mother to her 4 children. She was never happier than when she was tending to her garden or crafting, winning ribbon after ribbon for both. Living in Creston, BC after retirement, she was a dedicated volunteer at the Creston Valley Hospital Tuck Shop for 15 years. She was a well-known figure in Creston as she loved to shop and could spend many hours shopping without buying a thing. Everyone knew her and she will be dearly missed by many.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Springfield Care Centre for the care she received while residing there.

A Memorial Service will be held in a private room at 1249 Pacific Avenue, Kelowna, BC at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 20, 2019 with Sterling Dueck officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC, alzheimer.ca.     I was very sad when Kathy called me. Have lots of memories of her. She always enjoyed Kathy and my visits and we had a lot of laughs. Please know that I will be thinking of you on this day and hugs to all.
