We Remember
GEORGE, Gloria Jean
September 3, 1941 — December 26, 2022
With heavy hearts, the family of Gloria Jean George (née Mackie) is sad to announce that after a brief illness, she went to be with the Lord on December 26, 2022, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 81.
Gloria is survived by her loving husband Ernest George: sons Erwin Jones (Robin) of Kelowna, and Clint Jones of Kelowna: daughter Laura Sali (Wayne) of Kelowna: and daughter-in-law Charlene Beausoleil of Prince George. She also leaves behind, extended family member Steve Mezaros, and many cherished grandchildren, and cousins. She is predeceased by her son Corey Jones: father Jacob Mackie, and mother Jeanette Fortin.
Gloria was born in Canmore Alberta. Her childhood was spent learning to love nature, fishing in the Bow River with her dad, and even feeding the wildlife, including black bears from her hand! Being an only child, she grew very close to her cousins in Canmore and shared many happy
memories about those years.
In 1964, with her previous husband Ray Jones and her 2 eldest sons, she moved to Calgary, Alberta, where her youngest 2 children were born. She truly treasured family times with the Jones family from their years living there.
In 1973, the beauty of Kelowna drew the family, where her kids grew up learning the same love for nature and fishing from her. She worked as a telephone operator for BC Tel, during that time.
In 1987 Gloria was re-married to her loving husband Ernest George and they have spent the last 35 wonderful years together. Many of these years have also been spent camping and fishing with the family.
At a young age, Gloria became very good at playing the accordion and organ and enjoyed playing them throughout her life. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting gifts for everyone and loved hosting large family dinners. In her younger years, she also loved to go dancing and “kick
up her heels” whenever she could.
Gloria was very spiritual and was devoted to her Catholic faith, including being a member of the Legion of Mary. She was very caring and loving towards her friends and family, and always put others first. She prayed daily for the health and safety of all.
From her children: “Mom, you were an angel here on earth, and we pray that you will fly with the angels now. May your bright light always guide us. We will miss you deeply and will always cherish the love you gave us all so unconditionally. Thank you for the wonderful memories that you leave us with. Until we are together again, rest in peace Mom We love you and miss you dearly already.”
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all of the many nurses, doctors, and staff at KGH for the wonderful care that they gave to Gloria in her last days.
In lieu of flowers, they ask that a donation be made to the KGH Foundation in Gloria’s memory.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
