We Remember

GIESBRECHT, Eva Maria

January 28, 1966 — July 19, 2023

Born on January 28, 1966, in Bratislava, Slovakia (Czechoslovakia at the time), Eva Maria Giesbrecht lost her battle, at 57, on July 19, 2023, in Kelowna, BC.

To escape the Soviet invasion in 1968, Eva’s mother & father immigrated to Alberta, Canada with two-year-old Eva and her younger brother. Eva moved to Kelowna, BC around 1987, and she worked at the Kelowna Friendship Centre as a receptionist for many years. Eva was an incredibly good crib player, and it was at a crib tournament in 1989 that she met John Giesbrecht, her soon-to-be husband and lifelong partner. Eva had five beautiful children, three of which were with John. Eva was a caring mother, loving wife, as well as a fierce warrior who fought with love for what she believed in and stood for. She will always be remembered for her warm hugs, contagious laugh, caring heart, and will be dearly missed by many.

Eva lives on through her family: her beloved husband of 33 years, John Giesbrecht; her children: Soren Banman, Shayla Boothe, Kyle Giesbrecht, Cody Giesbrecht, and Olive Giesbrecht; grandchild, Micha Boothe; as well as her parents, Eva & Albert Volsky.

A service for Eva will be held in early September; if you knew Eva and wish to attend, please contact either Kyle or John Giesbrecht for service details.
