We Remember
GODFREY, Lon
—
Born January 16, 1926 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, James Alexander Lorne Godfrey, known by all as “Lon”, left this life on his own terms, as to be expected, on August 20, 2014 at the age of 88. Lon leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Gwen, his 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Lon loved life and lived it to the fullest. His passions included downhill skiing, scuba diving, fishing and travelling. He enjoyed sitting in the sun, listening to music, going for drives and cruising in his boat.
He was a member of and served in the Canadian Navy, the BC Police and the RCMP. He had many business interests, including insurance, real estate, and commercial property. For many years he was a Notary Public in Quesnel, BC.
Lon was an honest and caring man, who made friends wherever he was in the world, and he believed in doing whatever he could for the betterment of the communities in which he lived.
He was a Past President of the Cariboo Real Estate Board and the Quesnel Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Quesnel Hospital Board and the School Board. A Quesnel City Councillor for 12 years, Lon was also active in the Kinsmen, the RCMP Veterans Association, and the Rotary Club, who honoured him with the Paul Harris award.
Lon did anything for his children, believing that his family should experience what life and the world around them had to offer. The only thing he did not enjoy was getting old. So off you go to your next adventure, and say “hi” to all the guys. He will be greatly missed by us all. We love you, and thank you, for everything, Dad.
“I won’t say goodbye, I’ll say, see you again!”

My deepest sympathy to the family Mr Godfrey. Losing a loved one is one of the most painful thing in this world. But rest assured that Jehovah our God sees our sorrows and deeply cares about us. (1Peter 5:7) May you find comfort in God’s word recorded in John 5:28,29 which promises a resurrection hope for all our dear loved ones.
I can only offer my most heartfelt sympathies to Lon’s family. Growing up in Quesnel, I always thought Lon was larger than life. I can now truly appreciate the commitment Lon made to this community through his many community involvements. My thoughts are with my good friend Tina and the rest of Lon’s family. I hope that all the wonderful memories you have will help sustain you.
To the family of Mr. Lon Godfrey I offer my heartfelt sympathies. He was an amazing person that left us with many wonderful memories. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
May the memories of the joy and entertainment that you shared with Lon sustain and comfort at this time of loss. My sincere condolences to Gwen, family and friends.
Losing Lon is like losing another Dad. I grew up with him and he never let us down no matter what the circumstance. He was a man of honour, integrity and a whole lot of fun. I am honored to have known him the way I did, he will always leave loving memories for me with his humour and kindness. He was a man larger than life and lived it that way and I was fortunate to have shared some of it. He will be so missed, but may he rest in peace.

was sad to hear of Lon’s passing. I have fond memories of the trip West with my Dad many years ago. It was filled with laughs and adventures. To Gwen & family my thoughts are with you at this time. Love to all cousin Bonnie
So sorry to hear of Lon’s passing…he was so gracious to us when Dad, Gerry Howe, passed away in 1997… ensuring we received copies of the RCMP Scarlet and Gold with an article about Dad…we have treasured this memory that we would never have had without Lon’s thoughtfulness..
Dear Mrs. Godfrey and Family I am very sorry for your loss. My Father worked for Mr. Godfrey’s insurance firm for many years. Often I would catch a ride with my father from his office after school. I remember Mr. Godfrey as a very kind hearted man. I am sure he will be missed . Take care
Sincerely The Daniell Family.
Lon was our landlord in the early 80’s when our kids were little and we were hard up for cash. He was kind to us, our children and was just a good decent man. Now that we are doing well we look back upon our time being Lon’s tenants very fondly. He was a great guy.
