We Remember
GRASSIE, Richard
August 15, 1960 — March 16, 2026
It is with great love and sadness that we announce the loss of Richard (Rick) Grassie, who passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 65.
Left to hold him dear to their hearts are those he loved most, including his wife of many years, Annelie; children James (Katie), Michael (Barb), and Christopher (Bretton); grandchildren Parker, Wells, Madi, Hannah, Carter, Knox, and Nash; and sister Sandy (Randy). He now goes to join his parents and siblings, who passed before him.
Richard “Rick”, born on August 15, 1960, was one of six children. He was born in Grimsby, Ontario, and lived in several cities across the province until moving to Kelowna, BC, at the age of 20.
Annelie and Rick bought their beautiful home in South Kelowna several years after settling in the Okanagan and raised their three sons there. Rick was a caring father and neighbor, spending many winter nights flooding the South Kelowna ice rink for his sons and neighbourhood kids to enjoy. He loved watching his kids play sports and happily drove all over the province taking them to golf tournaments and early tee times.
Rick was a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed spending time on the road and the sense of freedom it gave him. He and Annelie enjoyed riding their motorcycles all over the valley together.
As much as Rick loved his sons, he absolutely cherished his grandkids. He could spend hours holding the newest born grandchild, while watching in awe as the older ones played around him. He was always commenting on how beautifully they all played together and how much joy he took in spending time with them. He took pride in gifting each of his grandchildren a personalized hockey jersey with their birth order number on the back. Holidays and summertime brought the family together and Rick would make sure to show up early to any gathering so he could maximize his time with his family. In recent years, Rick developed a love for playing video games, and began sharing that love with his older grandkids.
Rick was the definition of a family man and his passing will be deeply felt by his family and all that knew him.
A Private Celebration of Life will be held in Rick’s honour.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Spinal Cord Injury BC.

Dear Annelie, When I read this news about Rick today, it brought back many memories for us of our wonderful years living in Gallagher’s Canyon. Meeting you and your dear boys made our golfing adventures very special. We were deeply moved by your words about Rick and know how important he was to you all. Please accept our sincere condolences. My deepest condolences, to the Grassie family.
I’m so sorry for your family’s loss, it was a great pleasure to work for Rick, he talked so highly about his family, they were his greatest gift. He will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to the whole family. While living with Rick for the last 14 years or so, it was evident that his greatest joy was his family. Whenever they would come over, or when he would head out to be with them, he would always come back incredibly happy and would talk about what they got up to. Sometimes he was so excited he forgot who he had told, but he would keep telling people over and over for about a week afterwards ha ha. He was a great roommate that was always accommodating and he is really missed already.
Dear Annelie, Our deepest sympathy to you and the family.
Sandra and Roy
