We Remember

GRAY, Beverly Joyce

January 1, 1970 — January 1, 1970

Beverly Joyce Gray (Newcomb), born July 4, 1932 and went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 9th, 2020, aged 87 years.

Bev was predeceased by her husband, Dr. E. Leighton Gray, her parents Ester Gill and Clifton Newcomb and her brother George Newcomb. She is survived by her sister Marie Fazan (Terry); brothers Milton (Judy) and Melford (Shirley) Rutherford; daughter Cindy and John Bachelder; sons Gerry and Collen Gray, Doug Gray, Rob and Darlene Gray, Steve and Angela Gray; grandchildren James Campbell, Amanda Evans-Gray, David, Brady and Anna Bachelder, Dionne and Shannon Mingo, Brandon, Christina and Hannah Gray; many nephews, nieces, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Bev was born in Revelstoke, BC and spent her early years in Malakwa, BC until her family moved to Vancouver, BC when she was in elementary school. She had many tales to share of her life with her younger sister Marie, who she loved dearly, as they grew up together, supporting each other.  As an early teen, she moved to Kelowna BC where she met her husband to be and they were married on December 28th 1951.  Bev and Leighton remained in Kelowna and West Kelowna for the rest of their lives and raised their family of five children there.  The family jokes that Bev and Leighton raised two families, because there is 20 years between the oldest and the youngest child. She loved her children and they are thankful she put her heart, soul and prayers into their daily upbringing.

First and foremost, Bev was a loving wife and mother/grandmother.  She worked at the telephone office, downtown Kelowna, as a telephone operator for many years.  She loved sewing, collecting bells, playing board games, hosting and preparing for large festive family meals and neighborhood birthday parties, extensive summer traveling in a small trailer with well-behaved kids (according to them) hanging out with her family and friends and supporting her immediate and extended family.

Bev had a strong faith and was a devout Christian, attending and assisting at various churches throughout Kelowna and later, West Kelowna. She had the fun of getting young children out of bed early on Sundays to head off to Sunday School and Church services. Her children always made this easy for her by cooperating fully.  A legacy they are so thankful for now!

In the last years of her life she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as she resided, independently at Missionwood Retirement Resort and then lastly with support from Three Links Manor.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
