We Remember
GRIFFITH, James “Jim”
—
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Oscar Griffith on June 25, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice in Saint John, NB.
Jim is survived by his wife Susan (Nelson) Griffith, daughters, Lori-Anne (Christopher) McCormack of Kelowna, BC, Kelly (Alan) Griffith-Weymouth of Toronto, ON and son, Jesse (Jenny) Griffith of Kelowna, BC, eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Maude and Oscar Griffith and his older brother, Reggie Dorsey.
Jim grew up in Toronto. He started as a draftsman after high school, as he advanced his career moved to Edmonton, AB, and then to Burnaby, BC. He spent the last 27 years of his work life as Chief Estimator at Mott Electric.
Music was a mainstay in his life. In high school, he and a few friends formed a singing group who performed most weekends until adulthood. In his later years, Jim enjoyed listening to those same Motown hits, singing along with his favourites.
Jim was a huge sports fan. He loved to play basketball, baseball, and the occasional game of flag football. When his children were little, he coached and managed their various teams and then, once they were grown, he continued to coach televised games from his armchair.
There is immense gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of 5C North and South at the Saint John Regional Hospital and staff and volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice, for their exceptional care and compassion to Jim and his family.
