We Remember
GRIMSGAARD, John Ronald “Ron”
September 27, 1936 — July 23, 2025
It is with great love and admiration that we announce the loss of Ron Grimsgaard, who passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 88.
Ron leaves behind a wealth of love, including his wife of 62 years, Elsie Grimsgaard; children Ian Grimsgaard and Heidi (Scott) Petersen; granddaughter Jocelyn; and sister Audrey; along with many friends he made along the way.
He now goes to join his son James Ronald Grimsgaard, who passed before him.
Ron was born in Montreal on September 27, 1936, to Martin and May Grimsgaard, and grew up in the Park Extension neighbourhood. He spent over 30 years working as a linesman and manager for Bell Canada, a steady and hardworking presence both on the job and in the lives of those around him. Ron was a talented hockey goalie and an avid skier, taking ski trips across the U.S. and to Austria, always chasing the next run. He loved to travel with his wife, Elsie, and together they explored Europe and the UK, but it was their trip to Norway that remained closest to his heart.
A longtime member of the Summerland Golf and Country Club, Ron golfed whenever he could. He never missed a day with the newspaper, often reading two or three in one sitting, and was a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan. He enjoyed his single malt scotch (with high standards) and was happy to share boxed red wine with friends, so long as the scotch was properly aged. Ron cherished time with family, especially at their beloved cottage in Masonville, Quebec, where he and Elsie spent many peaceful days. He loved in a quiet, steady way, but his care and devotion ran deep.
Ron will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will each be honouring Ron in their own ways. No formal service will be held.

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Ronnie . We were like family growing up and I considered Ron as an uncle .I have great memories of fun times at your lake house in Rawdon Qc.,our walks to Stewart’s for Ice Cream , mine and Ian’s matching blue astronaut suits and many more great times together. Hopefully Ron kept the photos of my stag in the vault 😂. It was great having you at our wedding and all our memories will be cherished. I was always grateful to you for always including my mother in your trips after my father passed away . My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time and you were always like family to me ❤️ R.I.P. Uncle Ronnie 🙏
Many fond memories going back to the good old Rawdon days. Life well lived as a family man. May he rest in peace. My condolences to Elsie, Ian, Heidi, Jocelyn and Audrey. -Patsy
Elsie and family – I am so sorry to hear of cousin Ronnie’s passing. My mother always use to say he was one of her favourite cousins, even with the age difference. I heard lots of stories of Rawdon growing up but was too young to really remember it. May you, Ian and Heidi cherish your memories of all the good times and he rest in peace after a life lived well.
